The problem is that the set was clearly designed for female characters. A lot of male characters look severely out of place in it (and a lot of male players wouldn't be caught dead wearing it).
So yes, it's a decent enough set, but extremely biased towards 1 gender.

I haven't seen it ever on a preview male character -- is it really bad? I'd imagine AST would be just as bad, I suppose :/

I think it speaks for itself ;;;;;;;;
I don't know how people can hate on the Bard set. Granted that it's theme might not suit everyone, but from an objective perspective(as objective as you can get about such matters at least) I think it's a really beautiful set. The top and the bottoms(for females) are a realllllly nice design choice. I think I'll be sad to give up using a skirt with my character after so long, haha.
The unicorn-themed set (either Scholar or Summoner, I don't know which) is probably my least favourite.

The hood and those trousers can't be saved with dyes, they look awful. The hood is so antinatural, it looks like if it was made from metal and could stop bullets, it doesn't adapt to the head.
