I think honestly that the trouble you have to go through to obtain these far outweighs the value. I don't mind that they're rare because it's fun to have rare things, but the fact it took me no less than half a year to get two pots of white dye is a bit over the top. Would be much better if you got more pots per delivery, or if they were tradable/sellable, or if we had a less terrible rng for them or they were made available through other means. (I wouldn't even mind cash shop at this point) And offering them as a recruit a friend reward that makes players have to choose between these dyes and things like twintania mount doesn't actually place a higher worth on these dyes, it's no contest to the players what's worth more. It's only a dye, and a very finite amount of uses at that. It would only be worth this amount of trouble if the reward was greater.
They should just eliminate the dyes as consumable items and utilize the UI already in place to transform dyes into unlockables with unlimited use (a la WildStar, GW2, and probably others). Then it would be much more palatable to have a dye as rare as these, since you'd only need to have it drop once to unlock it.
I was like: I really, really, really, want my skirt to be Jet Black. Then I read up on the way to obtain it... And the only thing on my mind was "Fuck THIS SHIT!"
I really hope we get other ways to obtain those dyes... Im tired of waiting on my retainer to get pure whites >.>
Just wanted to add this in case there are those that do not knowI guess I'm just a little frustrated because it's been a few months since I've received any Pure White through retainers. I'm constantly doing quick ventures on my level 60 ARC who has an approximate ilvl of 159. I finally got the 4 main pieces of my Thavnairian set and wanted to dye them Pure White. So, I asked around, found someone in my FC who was willing to dye the arms, body and legs for free. Met him in the FC house, only to discover that because I glamoured the items they are now bound to me and can no longer be traded. So, I have absolutely no way to dye them the color I want beyond spending venture upon venture upon venture to HOPE that someday I get some more Pure White instead of worthless fish and near worthless housing items.
Lets say you have a rare dye like Pure White, that you want to apply to a cosmetic or high price item such as the Bustier. Apply the expensive dye to it, then glamour your items.
That way if you want to try a different dye, open your character and dye over the glamoured items. DO NOT dye your original piece as dyeing a glamoured item, only changes the dye on it and not the original piece, that way you can just re-glamour back to the original item to go back to the rare/expensive dye. I'm still new to this and figured that out, so i wanted to share with others that may not know that.
This is true, but it is a rather clunky system. If I wanted a specific gear piece to be pure white this would be the first thing I'd think to do, but if I already had the base piece dyed with say, a cash shop dye that I wanted to keep for future use, the only way to remedy this situation is to buy another of that exact same gear piece just to store the dye. Which makes less sense the more expensive the particular gear piece is. I've already got three or four hempen camises stuck back on a retainer to store dyes, if it was something like the thav. set, I'd have to decide which one to keep and which one I wouldn't have quite as hard of a time parting with.
Hence why dye systems that utilize an unlocking + unlimited use strategy are far superior. C'mon, SE, get with the times! This is true, but it is a rather clunky system. I did know this, but it's still a great bit of information for newer people that may not know!Apply the expensive dye to it, then glamour your items.

For those that have yet to see any of the dyes drop. Just letting everyone know what i run.
4 retainers all at 115 ilvl. Just got them to lvl 50 the past week. As of today i have recieved all metallic dyes available from retainer ventures and 3 of the pastel dyes. Quick ventures every hour. About 90 venture token spent per day.
