When my inventory space gets tight and it is more often than not, and both my retainers have 20 items up for sale, I will sell stuff WELL BELOW MARKET value, too bad for you. Buy it and resell if it wads your knickers. If I want to buy something and I need gil fast...guess what, I price it to sell fast.

Obnoxious indeed, if you do something like that in a market that will sell fast regardless of the current price.
If 50 items sell each day, then placing one at half price isnt going to make it sell faster.
That should be obvious to you already, or you wouldnt have your retainers maxed on selling slots all the time. If they sold faster they wouldnt be full, would they.
