I'm apparently an elitist simply for putting in effort and expecting others to do the same.

No, you're an elitist for putting someone down and making them feel bad for not performing as well as you. (not you specifically, but that's what elitist means to me)

I agree on that point, however, I'm referring more to the ones that feel the need to rage at someone and throw insults rather than be tactful as you stated above. I don't consider your statement an elitist response. Most people (i said most lol) would take that with a grain of salt and move on with no hard feelings because of the way you said it.
