It's both. The majority of the discrepancies between what females get and what males get is in the realm of eye candy gear. When it comes to more serious functional looking gear, that's already available to both genders so there's little to argue about in that regard, but there's far more sexy eye-candy gear available for females than males.

We want equality, to be able to wear all the sorts of gear that female characters can, and since sexy gear is what's lacking in that respect, that's the gear we're asking for. If we had the same amount of sexy eye-candy gear, but females had more functional looking full plate armour than males, then we'd be asking for more functional armour. Sexy eye candy becomes the topic of any equality in gear thread because that's where the equality is lacking.

So? the op called me a troll yet she was asking for eye candy outfits? so i guess i must ask how was i trolling since others like Remilia_Nightfall seem to think the op was asking for it as well? FYI i'm a she as well but i really can care less about how much any of my toons have on. Anyway here are some pics of guys in game and as anyone can see guys get to show off way more skin and get some girl like stuff as well So what are guys missing?

Female characters constantly get new exclusive gear to flaunt their stuff in, while male characters are still limited to the same stuff that's been around since desynthesis was first patched in. The Thavnairian set in particular looked like it was going to be split into male and female versions, but the male version was revealed to be unisex, meaning female characters still have nearly twice as many options as male characters.

That's the issue being discussed. Everything else is just a tangent.

Ok then so guys need more outfits that's what i was asking way back when but that has nothing to do with guys getting girl outfits like dresses and that new one. And that is the thing about this topic some are asking for guys to get dresses and girl stuff and others are asking for guys to get more outfits

Functionally, there is no way for men to get more outfits without creating a situation where girls are going to be like "But the guys version of x looks cool!", unless if it's basically the same outfit (which would result in giving guys clothes that look like dresses and "girl stuff"). If you don't do that you create the annoying situation in so many other games in which the girls only get cute/sexy outfits and guys only get the cool/tough outfits, while it should be an equal amount of options of cool/tough and cute/sexy outfits for both, which generally includes giving men dresses and "girl stuff"

The situation with "give us more short skirts and girly outfits" threads is no one ever goes "But please make sure the guys also get short skirts and girly outfits too" and only cares about the addition of eye candy sets for the girls.

Well, I didn't call you a troll, but I thought your post did miss the point a bit. It sounded like you thought asking for sexy eye-candy outfits was a distinct issue from asking for equality in our choice of outfits. They're one and the same, since that's the area where that equality is currently lacking. SE should be offering just as much choice (including as much fan-service) to both genders.

I, for one, do like sexy male outfits, but the part that bothers me is the fact that being a woman playing a male character gives me fewer such options than I'd have if I were a man playing a female character. I'd likely be satisfied with what we have if it were the same as what other players were given, but being given less than other players get feels like I'm being given a second-rate version of the game.

It's particularly frustrating since it's such a departure from their initial stance. SE and the FF franchise are generally pretty good at gender equality. And this game started off no different, with males and females both getting a wide range from skimpy outfits to fully clothed conservative outfits to full armour. But now, as more stuff gets added through various patches, they're departing from that pattern, and instead repeatedly adding fan service eye candy outfits to just one gender and not the other.

Agreed. Currently it's "cool outfit = unisex. delicate and/or sexy outfit = female only", and while i'd satisfied if they added an equal amount of 'male only' outfits to the female ones, I also know that there will be protests from players of female characters going, "I want to wear that too D: It's not fair!", or one of the designers/developers will go, "Oh, but this would look cute on girls, why can't we make it unisex?"

And if they were to decide to make all outfits (apart from those that HAVE male/female equivalents, such as yukatas and swimsuits and ff13 gear), while initially there might be some protests along the lines of, "Wait, you're letting guys wear this?" I think that it would die down a lot quicker. (Hopefully once those people realized the world didn't end just because men got to dress up in pretty/sexy clothes as well.)

Sure, just like with the whole jumping issue, there might be a surge at first with people dressing up purely for the shock value even though they wouldn't normally pick that kind of outfit, but just like how no one really cares anymore if people can jump continuously instead of just once every fifteen minutes, I think people would calm down quickly enough with the "cross-dressing horror", and go back to mixing and matching from different sets to get the kind of look they want (instead of the one with the most shock value).

See, I'm just really afraid of going into a whole "Guys get cool/relaxed clothing. Girls get sexy/cute clothing." deal, which is why I'm incredibly wary of supporting male locked gear as opposed to making it all unisex.. Plus I'm also a little afraid the addition of "male-specific gear" will mean stuff like the Thanvarian, spring dress, et cetera.. sets being kept locked (As they're now "equally unfair" ), which kinda sucks, Nozomi really looks wonderful in the Thanvarian set and I'd be heartbroken if that's never a thing. It just doesn't really fix a lot of issues regarding the subject. So... Praying for the day all outfits are unisex here ;_;

Also yha bumping is important.
