I'm saying I'd rather win a griffin than fork over my cash for it. That's not an adventure. That's not a quest with a fabulous reward. That's a stale, grey, joyless transaction.
SE is out to make cash like everyone in the world why is that so bad? no one here is asking for stuff that is game killing no one here is asking for everything to be paid for by a cash shop but if SE want's to toss something in it every now and then they can do so. And fans can ask for things yes? i mean everyone pays to play this game so just as some ppl in here say since they pay they don't want stuff in the shop others who pay as well can ask for things to be added.

That's not bad. And if it's profitable, it's a legitimate reason to do it in a business perspective.

However, with everything added to the cash shop, that's one less thing they could have added to the game. One less thing to grind for, one less thing to get people into the game for, one less thing that encourages people to continue to subscribe to play for.

As more of these things are added, it becomes more nonsensical to keep the game as pay to play, because it ceases to have the benefits of being pay to play for customers. Why pay 20 dollars for a mount in FFXIV for example, and pay a sub fee, when you could pay 20 dollars for a mount in a F2P game and not have to pay a sub fee?

I've played many F2P games. Just about all of them have been very instant gratification oriented. FFXIV was my first subscription MMO, and I loved how you worked for everything in game. Real life financial inequality did not exist in FFXIV. Everything you saw in game could be earned. Then the cash shop was introduced. It was less invasive than F2P games, though it's been steadily increasing. First a mount and minions and old event items (which I don't really have a problem with), then marriage, then exclusive dyes.

That mount could have been a rare drop from the pretty pointless Odin trial. Reason to grind the trial, reason to play. Instead it's a cash shop mount. Instant gratification that requires no work and gives you no additional reason to play or subscribe longer. Small, but it adds up.

If it continues, the game will begin to look more like a F2P game without the benefits of a F2P game (i.e. no subscription fee). We should all know by now that F2P games see people come and go a lot and generally are iffy on success. This is partly because they're free, and partly because they are shallow in content and filled with encouragement to purchase from the cash shop. Instant gratification means less reason to actually play the game. In the long term, taking on F2P characteristics will hurt the game, which will hurt the income from it unless SE manages to attract enough huge spenders who stick around to offset the people who spend nothing. And with a large cash shop, trust me, they'd have more trouble justifying the subscription fee. Hard to sell a F2P-like cash shop AND a sub fee if it came to that.

That's why so many people oppose adding to the cash shop. It can quickly get out of control and puts the tried and true to be successful subscription fee/low cash shop content FFXIV setup at risk. Take it from someone who has played tons of F2P and B2P games.
