Artificially? Not really. I could get where you would say that in a normal game sense, but a stricter DPS check still has a time limit, it's not just "it takes more hits". In other games, giving something more HP just extends the length of the fight outwards; you don't have to perform any better, just prove you can do it for longer when you've already proven you can. Which, yes, is fairly artificial. But the difference here is there's still a time limit. In fact, it's the same time limit.

To meet the DPS check in currently available gear, every player needs to be performing at an absolutely incredible level in their given classes - including tanks and healers. As is tradition for the opening fight in raid content, it's a competency check; with this being intended to challenge even the best of players, it's now tuned to be incredibly strict. You have to prove, just to get entry to the actual fights, that your classes are not just incredibly well geared but that you're living up, skill wise, to the demands they'll place on you.

And the thing is, with it being Faust, the rest of the content can be tuned with the minimum demand being that level of skill and execution from all players involved.

Yes, but as players get better gear, fights like that become a joke... while fights with more mechanics that kill you either way, still retains a lot of it's challenge.

I doubt an estimated 6500 DPS to clear a fight is going to become 'a joke' at any time soon.

Also, it's Faust. The "You must be this tall to enter" check before the fight - not the actual fights. Its purpose is literally just to confirm a minimum level of competency across the raid that will be demanded from the group in the remainder of content, as content difficulty comes in two parts - the personal execution level on the class, and the individual demands unique to the fight (mechanics).

oh in 2 weeks when everyone and thier mom has free i200 weapon (buying anything else with your weekly esos before that is stupid as weapon makes the biggest impact out of all the eso items and only other option is blocked by A4 till 3.1) this dps check will be ALOT easier than now for sure. tough probaly not JOKE level. but still alot easier than now.

The thing is..for the normal player sure its gonna be tough..but for the hardcore its easy..cause they are already use to their rotation as well as their number counting to make sure they hit the dps they need..so no..its not more difficult
