Crafting is the one system we have left where it's up to the community to resolve the problem.

There is tons of supply far often out weighing the demand. Get a trade network outside the market board and you will find yourself with abundance of materials.

The stuff dow can farm sell for amazingly high prices.

Find people who specialize on areas that you don't. Help them and they will help you thus isn't a solo genre as much as the duty finder engraving on yiu that's it's ok to ignore all the ants on your server as nothing more than que fodder. The game still rewards community.

Don't try and lone wolf a mmo.

Being a crafter is genetic or a religion. Who knew?

I don't really like leather taking 3 skins though. But that's mostly because it's weird. Like, are you just gluing them together? How does the log come into play in that? It's nitpicky, but I just wonder where the rest of those skins go.
Right there with you. The quantity and combinations are definitely pushing the pack-rat angle for leveling crafters.

I get the OP's complaint about the cost and I'd love to see SE make crafting more open but given SE's approach so far I can't see them doing it. I just keep telling myself that it'll calm down. If the price gets high enough, I go out and gather it myself.

I giggled a bit when you mentioned "severe grinding mechanics". In FFXI, I played for TEN YEARS and never managed to cap Goldsmithing due to the high cost and scarcity of high-level materials. I did eventually reach level 100 - shortly after SE had raised the cap to 110.

This game, I actually stopped turning in Grand Company turn-ins a couple weeks ago because it was leveling my crafting and gathering jobs TOO FAST. I'd likely have them all at 60 by now if I kept up with the daily regimen of turn-ins I'd maintained for a while, but I want to experience the full range of crafting; I want to do the leves, I want to craft one of every item, I want to craft my own equipment as I level, and I want to earn exp doing it. I also had to stop crafting HQ items for leves, because they were just granting too darned much experience when I did. As it stands, in spite of my efforts to throttle back it looks like Goldsmithing is going to be level 60 well before I finish all the GSM leves and items, sadly.

The so-called crafting grind is weaksauce. Admittedly, I do have an advantage having done the somewhat less weaksauce grind needed to get Lucis tools - but even Lucis tools start to lose their luster at around level 56.

I got to 92.2 GSM and that took forever and millions of Gil. FFXIV crafting is a joke compared to XI.

As an endgame crafter myself, I'm really , really disappointed after seeing what they brought us in 3.05.
Ok, 450 script per week. That's a great limit ! You can craft only several pieces per week, how fun is that ?
Yes, someone may have that famous idea of "You're not supposed to grind up everything within a short time!"
...So we may need to spend 3-5 months to fully gear up our CRAFTER classes ! Yay !
And seriously, what kind of crafter will want to spend their hard-earned script to make those i180 PvE outfits?
Yes someone would probably just do that. Putting them up for sale for a good 20-50 million. That's not OP at all, they worth that price. Glamour ftw you hear ?! Who cares about their pathetic value in raids ?

Sorry if i'm being a bit hot headed and a narrow minded jerk. But this is all i felt after seeing today's patch. SE is either doing a terrible designer for crafter contents, or they just wanted this, to keep us at bay for some reason.

MMO stands for Massively Multiplayer Online, not Mandatory Multiplayer Online.

Buying stuff from the MB isn't fun. Gathering and crafting my own items is a lot more fulfilling.

"Socializing with the MB" should be optional, yet it's being jammed down our throats if we want to be a DoH/DoL.

Congratulations, you just proved that crafting in FFXI was worse.

The grind in FFXIV isn't in leveling, it's in crafting 2 star equipment and up where you spend millions overmelding. It's in getting your Supra and Lucis. It's in leveling desynth skills (something that is basically copy/pasted FFXI crafting). I got all my DoH and DoL to 50. After getting perfect overmelds for all my DoL I simply gave up because spending millions on overmelds simply isn't fun. Spending all day farming gil in FFXI was my main reason for leaving the game.
