VIT tanks, as in all VIT accessories and all VIT spec, will not be close, not even the slightest, regardless of job, to a STR tank.Yeah, there's that, too. He/She is a WAR, and I'm trying to compute what he's/she's saying from a PLD perspective. Still, I recall SwO PLDs being not that far behind from WAR pre-3.0. Are Fell Cleave and Deliverance THAT good ? The nerf bat is definitely eventually coming to them if that is the case.
For the record I also have an all STR 60 Paladin too.
It's good, and makes for some great OT spike damage, but PLD's higher potency normal combos and access to one of the best DoTs in the game end up evening things out over longer durations. In an OT situation, WAR will end up edging PLD out by a bit, but not to any degree that could be considered overpowered. People really tend to underestimate PLD's potential damage output. The only tank that's really lacking in OT damage potential is DRK. But that class is awful in every aspect concerned with OT, and should never actually be considered for that role anyway.Yeah, there's that, too. Interesting to know. Haven't touched my WAR since Heavensward came out, as DRG is the 2nd job I'm leveling to 60 right now. And then my DoLs will take priority.
I had all 50s during ARR, but in all honesty, in the short term, I don't think I'll be leveling all jobs. It was already getting quite difficult to be good at all of them. By "good" I mean able to do most things on a level that doesn't make your party wipe. :P
So, is it really really optimal? Even for the content coming out soon with Savage?
If it is I'll reset my stats and change my build, i'm all about playing at my best and if vitality stuff isn't good i'll switch it out.
I just kind of wish they would remove it since it's considered useless but eh.
Optimal will always be to meet the HP threshold for the content and then STR stack beyond that. For instance when FCoB first came out I need roughly 10.2-10.4K HP to do T13, so we wore the minimum VIT gear needed to hit that and then the rest was STR. Eventually we put on crafted gear to get more STR while keeping HP at threshold. The same will be for Savage. So, is it really really optimal? Even for the content coming out soon with Savage?

My tank classes have been STR specced for a long time, many, many patches.
In situations where you can guarantee your survivability, full strength will always be optimal. That said, you won't always be able to do that, and for that reason, it's always best to have some vitality accessories on hand. We don't know if the upcoming Alexander Savage content, or any content after that, will call for more vitality. So, is it really really optimal? Even for the content coming out soon with Savage?

So the whole debacle was based off some random DPS-wannabe tank who simply said "Tanks will need to dps harder becuz Yoshi P said so" without the actual proof of said quote anywhere to be seen. It's just an echo room of DPS-wannabe tanks at this point who can't justify their use of STR accessories as MAIN TANKS other than "someone said the dev said so".
Mmmkay
