Anyways, I just got to the part where I have to fight Good King Moggle Mog (finally something interesting?) but it requires a full raid. Awesome. So I sat in queue for 20 minutes and finally got a party, but they voted to abandon the trial after TWO wipes. WHY? Clearly these people queued because they needed it, so why would they give up AFTER FIVE MINUTES? Especially when we get a stacking buff?? Is this normal for this games community? Now I'm sitting in queue again.

I wouldn't have spent $40 on Heavensward if I knew I'd probably never get to see any of it. :\
To answer the first question, because Final Fantasy games are story driven, always has and looks like it always will.

For your second question, I don't know. I haven't had people give up when I've done DF's. Most of the time if you were new, they'd explain what you had to do, then clear it and move on. The story mode versions of boss fights and such are simplistic in a way that it shouldn't require you to research anything, just a quick blurb from someone who's done it and it's fine.

Just remember, you may think you're regretting to spend 40 bucks on HW, but you're still gaining EXP towards 51 because you have HW unlocked now. Less EXP you have to worry about when you actually get to Ishgard and the surrounding areas, leaves more side quests for other jobs you decide to level later, etc.
