I supported my statement, and all you did was tell me I was wrong.

As I pointed out that 4500 hp is absorbing one more ball than you, without me dying. That 4500 hp is the extra 2-3 seconds a healer has to heal someone else in an oh poop moment.

So please support your statement, with actual facts.

I am sure you can't name a single situation in which the extra hp isn't helpful to either you, or someone else in the raid.

That begs the question, though: Would the DPS you gain be more helpful than that extra HP?

When the extra HP isn't doing anything. Wait an extra second for a heal? Get better healers? Have a proper CD rotation so the balls do less damage? Or using clemency between the balls?

Good tanks find the HP minimum and then stack as much STR a possible. STR = more hate and faster fights. Speed is one of the best forms of mitigation.

When every second matters every bit of STR does. (including STR pots) If you are not into Endgame then the HP is even more meaningless.

Look at Ravana EX or Alex NM. 12k HP is plenty for a tank. Yes I've seen the 17k tanks but they are actually in a worst scenario. We were clearing A4 in 5:50 with full STR tanks and DPSing healers. We saw 2 tank busters per fight. Most groups and their VIT tanks clear in close to 10 minutes and see 4-5 tank busters. We skips 10s of thousands of damage by using the VIT minimum and gearing for a faster fight. I bet we are sub 5min this week. Ravana we skip final liberation, how many groups struggle there? Speed is king once mechanics are sorted out.

It's just a theory. There's always situations where a little extra HP helps, always situations where a little extra DPS helps. And always situations where things can go horribly wrong with either setup.

The point of it is if you can survive all mechanics with a certain amount of HP, then having more HP than that is wasted potential. It's not about "getting better DDs", it's about the icing on the cake.

I feel both sides of the argument, in faceroll content or solo stuff full str all the way. Learning a fight or pugging with pf or df, then it's str/vit split depending on the circumstances. It's not like its a terrible thing. The only remotely bad thing that comes out of it is the expectation of tanks who don't wear str or believe they need the most HP possible getting pigeonholed as bad players. If you can tank everything fine in full vit or tank everything fine in full str then what's the difference? As long as it get's tanked, that's the main thing.

The difference is STR tanks get shorter fights with less mechanics. Less mechanics equals less chance of a wipe, it also saves healers huge chunks of MP skipping mechanics.

Don't get me wrong when Savage comes out I'll be rocking i180 VIT for our first clears but by week 2 I'll be shaving off as much VIT as possible.

The current fodder content is faceroll in full STR so the VIT is pointless.

The dps gain isn't enough to out weigh the gain by being able to give the raid a little breathing room.

But still you have not named a situation where going str, would benefit the raid. Saying going from a 10 minute fight to a 5 minute fight is not a real argument because the what 30 str isn't going to knock 5 minutes off the fight which is what you are suggesting.

There is no real argument that str tanks have shorter raids, and less mechanics. Because like I said above your dps is so low that it doesn't really change it by minutes but by seconds. So the real gain would possibly be one less mechanic.

Having good dpsers ( not tank want to be dpsers ) is what makes a 10 min fight a 5 min fight.

    Speak for yourself. :V

Oh, also, you gain 184 STR from just i180 STR accessories + 1 i190 STR ring... I'm not sure where you're getting "30 STR" from. Attribute points? In which case... lol.

I meant 130. but thanks for the correction, I wasn't really worried about getting the numbers to be exact. My point still stands that 184 str as u put it doesn't really change raid outcomes. And honestly if you want to get technical it would be a total of 368 str. because most the time you run 2 tanks. But still it isn't enough to change the game.

I am not saying you guys are wrong about how you play, what I am saying is it allows good or bad players more cushion for unexpected situations. Keep running str. No one is saying not to. Me personally though wouldn't want you in my raid like that.
