I prefer Str acc on my tanks whether I'm playing of healing. My dps cut off changes by less than 5% if at all while healing and dpsing a tank in Str vs Vit acc. You should be switching to healing before the 1000 hp ever becomes relevant.

Also tank (str) and healer dps aren't mutually exclusive and both can occur at the same time. Saying that vit acc allows for more healing dps and in turn greater total team dps isnt a valid argument because objectively the most dps will be achieved with healer dps and Str tanks both doing increased dps. Taking away one or the other results in an opportunity cost and less dps potential.

I war all STR if I'm doing something like OT Ravana EX (only coming in for Blinding Blades). I use a mix in Alex normal. I drop anything with Parry if I can as Parry kinda sucks and is entirely useless when not actively tanking.

Any good tank who also doesn't want to spend a life's fortune on crafted gear + materia just carries one set of each and switches out depending on the situation.

In 2.0, we had crafted accessories that were 20 ilvl below the coil/myth drops. In 3.0, we have crafted accessories that are not only 40 iLvl below raid drops, but it is mathematically impossible to use these accessories and meet the i170 requirement to even enter alexander.

You enter with w/e accessories get you i170+, then swap to the crafted pentamelds. Mathematically the pentamelds are slightly better than the i180s, possibly even i190s.

Still I assume Green Crafted gear is incomming at some point. Start saving gil, they will be STUPIDLY expensive. 3-4M+ each for a HQ piece.

    ilvl doesn't effect gain.

I190s have 40str/VIT I150s have 31str and up to 29vit that is 60 main stats.

I150s will have more weight (depending on VIT needs) well into the i210-220 range.

I get the argument between the 2 pieces of gear. But honestly, the claim of it upping your dps is a very poor excuse doing it, it may up your dps a tiny bit ( not really worth mentioning because its so low ) and if your guild / fc really relies on you to pull good numbers to help out with dps checks, then your guild / fc needs to find some new dps.

There are 1000 different things which could go wrong in a raid, the fending will allow the healers enough time to handle other stuff then get back to healing you. By not having fending ( ie more hp ) you are not giving them any cushion to do what needs to be done.

Plain and simple you are a tank, not a dps if you would like to dps role another class. As far as the stats with blocking parry and crit, it is all a theory crafted idea right now, nothing more nothing less. But having the HP to with stand any blow at any given time without a cool down, imo makes for a more lack luster raid, where mistakes aren't always a wipe.

Lastly I just want to say this. Full 170 you should have something like 17.5k hp, with 2-3 fending you should have 14.5k hp. The bombs in turn 4 deal 4-5k, with slaying if you take 3 hits you die, where as I don't

not to mention there are a lot of abilities that CAN NOT BE BLOCKED OR PARRIED in this game.

In closing it is my opinion ( unless you are losing agro ( which you may want to work on your rotation )) that you should always wear fending unless you are soloing.

Your opinion doesn't make an mathematical sense and gets tanks very bad reps across the community.

If you have 15000HP and never take more then 10000 damage what is the remaining 5000hp doing for you? Its like seeing tanks with 10000hp in Garuda EX. I was tanking that just fine with 5500hp back at i90, wtf is that 4500hp doing for you? Full fending accessory builds have been gimp since 2.1 and have only gotten worse over time.
