    I like the current iteration of summoner. It's about a million times more interesting than what it was for the majority of its XI life.

    Most people just want summoner to be blatantly overpowered in a way that doesn't work for MMOs.

    I initially thought the egis looked kind of lame, but honestly it works better than having huge pets running around on the field destroying visibility/etc.

    I think the glamour system is the right move - expand the pet "roles" of tank/caster/melee while increasing the "feel" of summoner that some people are looking for. IMO this is a similar argument to people who are upset about Drk not being a DPS class - I'd rather them use classic jobs and take a spin on them so that they fit into FF XIV/the balance of it than add a bunch of stuff no one cares about. IMO the classes were part of the failure of 1.0.

    Personally I'm hoping for something like shiva/titan/topaz tank, ifrit/leviathan/ruby melee, ramuh/garuda/emerald caster.

    Pretty much I would go for this ^^ Then they can call summoner something else and actually work on a proper pet job instead of this mishmash of ideas job they call summoner xD. Its like they didn't know what to do with summoner, so they just threw things at it until something worked.

    I don't know where you get "most people just want summoner to be blatantly overpowered[...]" from but I see people just wanting a bit of variation given how bland the job was prior to 3.0. I mean even the trollquest at the start for the new smn storyline was a bit of a low blow by SE. ;P

    In terms of comparing smn from FFXI to the iterration in FFXIV. I wouldn't call the job more interesting but more useful. The concept of having a lot of different summons with different skill (garuda party blink/titan party stoneskin/carbuncle being able to heal) was great on paper. Sadly the restrictions that class had in terms of mp management at least in lower levels made this job really hard to play with the playstyle at the time. So summoners got reduced to using whm as subjob and played the healer for the group (with the occasional buffs from garuda or titan)

    What we have with the smn class now is not a smn but a warlock which is fine.

    The glamour system is indeed a great move to give smn some variety and I really hope sch get something along the lines to. (if not model changes but than maybe clothes/hairstyles for the faires)
    The comment made by SE even as disappointing as it sounds makes this whole thing quite optimistic, because it seems like they really want to put effort in this and not just slap some stuff together that makes nobody really happy.

    Idk about "most people", but as far as I'm concerned - I don't care about power (quite frankly, it's powerful enough if played right), but I would like some actual wow-factor to it. Primals, summoning creatures... Sounds like this awesome thing to make people's jaws drop, and instead we're just pewpewing away little balls of light for the most part. Sure, Deathflare is great when it can be popped (although let's not even talk about how much "summoner" the route to it is), but every time I'm in a party with a BLM, I feel inferior in playstyle/visuals. And no I'm not saying I should feel superior, because keep it balanced, yes - but I shouldn't feel inferior either. It's just the lack of visual oomph that I personally dislike.

    After getting a couple Egi's for summoner I see the reason why its Melee/ Mage/ Tank/ ??? Aside from them being the three early primals there's nothing else besides stat effects to having Egis of the others. I can see glamming an Egi with parts of outfits and accessories (garuda in a summer hat, titan with a shirt and tie, etc) or even their color. But seeing say Leviathan do burning strike with a water effect seems a bit much. Might as well just have an actual summon at that point.

    The egis really turn me off to playing Smn, I would have wanted smaller avatar versions of the Primals instead. Also (I know this will never happen) I would have wanted the class to be closer to the Summoner in FFXI, that is to say, you summon and your "abilities" are commands that you give the pet, make the Summoner more focused on the actual pet rather than the Summoner itself. But MMO design for pet classes has, unfortunately, moved away from that.

    I love my little potato. The windy chicken is okay, the fire lizard is kind of weird... it looks like a manananggal (a demon thing in my country's folklore) but I love his deeps. I would like to be able to use carbys as a summoner though.

    That said, I totally understand why this would be difficult to implement for the devs. It's like skinning and animating a couple of mini-classes in one job/class. I'd be a happy summy if they could implement some changes, but I'd expect some summon additions or changes for our scholar bros and sis too.
