This is absolutely not recommended. Every video card manufacturer has different tolerances to overclocking, and specific card brands (eg MSI) are known to factory overclock their cards to cheat synthetic benchmarks, but the cards have much shorter life spans if operated in this manner.

I'd hazard to guess that anyone who is having DX11 crashes that don't get the crashes in any other games are in the "my GPU is actually overclocked" camp. The trademark of this is how the games are crashing. When crashing on zoning, this is putting a lot of memory-transfer stress on the video card, so it's likely the memory on the card failing.

You can test the tesselation, memory and rendering units with it. If it crashes under those stress tests, your card defective.
