Observations from a New Player

Potions: If you are soloing and bite off more than you can chew, or if you are in duty and you know a healer will fail to get you back up / run out of mp / got poisoned and not getting cleaned.
Food: In short, it's buffs. Increases your stats.
Treasure Chests: Where do I even begin here... You don't like being rewarded

Wait...What? I haven't had to use a potion since maybe 20.And the food? 3% exp boost? And for the stats? Stats mean very little. Its not like 4 or 5 point difference in str between my character and yours makes us play different. Playing this game is like playing a rail shooter. Its the most linear mmo I have ever played. And I do think it needs trimming. Would you give up potions for more armory space. I would in a heart beat. No one in dungeons go after treasure chest anymore, speed run straight to boss. Its kinda sad that a new person quickly sees some flaws in design with this game.

Wait, tell me when the last time you used a potion? be honest. If they took the potions out of the game tomorrow, would you miss it? will people all over the game start failing duties? I wanna know who uses potions on a regular in endgame? tell me. Now, sane with food. When was the last time you not eating some chestnuts cost you a run, especially in endgame? And finally, if SE said they were removing potions to make more inventory room and armory room, how many people will complain? How many hot bar slots do you have dedicated to potions? I wager none. Or maybe one. I wouldn't miss potions, especially now that they nurfed earlier lvls. I would rather them increase exp fighting random mobs in the open world than have me pop a lizard foot in my mouth for 3% boost to kill a mob in a dungeon that people speed run through. Whens the last time you killed every mob in a dungeon for exp?

I do. Do you even endgame? If you do, but you don't use food and Potions to maximize your potential then your team may need to pick up the slack where you fall short. Try using them sometime. They are incredibly potent.

What? Are you insane? When have potions EVER been considered potent? At level 60 I can just about restore half a cure spell using the best ether in the damned game! That's less than useless. Even my base regen is higher than that at this point!

HP potions are even worse! With a HQ I might just about be able to recover 650 hp. That's like half a melee hit, if you're lucky. If you're ever in a situation where a potion is the only thing keeping you alive, it won't be for long. The next hit WILL finish the job.

Echo drops, spine drops etc... now all of those have genuine merit to them. Those curatives are the only ones I'll accept as being useful and relevant in endgame content. Potions and ethers are almost irrelevant even at level 50, but with the level cap now raised they've been pushed even farther into obscurity.

No, potions are kind of weak. I'll give him that one. Food, on the other hand, now that can make a considerable difference. Bonus critical, bonus speed, bonus everything. It can make a marked difference on your DPS, give you a decent amount of bonus HP and just generally increase your chances of success and survival. It's extremely useful. Even out of combat, there are crafting foods, gathering foods and so forth which are immeasurably valuable to those classes. Remove at your peril.

But... linkshells? Did he really say he wanted to remove those? Linkshells are great for keeping in touch with your friends. Not everyone is in the same Free Company, and you can equip multiple linkshells so you can be in a variety of different groups at the same time. I've set my LS's to have different colored texts so I can see if it's a hunt, or a casual chat. They're invaluable and the fact that he wants them removed means he has no idea what they are.

You know there are pots that increase stats, as well as stuff like poison etc?

Definitely agree that potions aren't very potent, but I do feel like I get some okay milage out of the X-Ethers I pop. I mainly use them like an extra energy drain in case I spent Aetherflow Stacks on something else, or had to Resurrect someone and want to keep my MP number a bit more healthy looking. Not like Scholars have mana problems anyway, but that's maybe why I feel like I get a bit more out of them than a more mana hungry healer would.

Or maybe it's all just a placebo effect. Or they're an addictive substance, I'm not sure which is worse (I mean is it really healthy to consume Voidsent Blood?). It'd be nice to see those kinds of general use potions get a bit more of a boost though, because you're right in that they're not very impressive.

Also chiming in to agree on the Linkshell support. I can't imagine playing without them! I created mine to keep in touch with both IRL friends and in-game friends so we could all be in one place. I try to keep it active, and above all else keep it smaller and friendly so that people always feel comfortable talking, and we're always doing things together. Everyone has their own FCs and their own statics and responsibilities to having a place where we all talk daily and play together is great!

well not all potions are potent , like the HP one .
But others can make a difference , like go to t5 with ilvl 85-90 gear.
U know what we did bk in time to kill the snake off fast enough ? our melees used str+ potions and the mages int+ potions , when ur trying to do content with gear thats not +20 ilvls,
that potions can make the difference in success and failure.

edit : i wished some people would use them like for bismarck HM , where people cant meet the dps checks and keep failing over and over again.
