Exactly how obvious do RMT need to be SE?

You have no idea what you're talking about. It doesn't take an army of people to curb this problem, it takes effort, SE has put in zero effort to curb the problem. They just go for the low hanging fruit. I'm not just guessing here either, if they were fixing it, the problem would get better, it has not.

You do realize that FFXIV isn't a F2P game, right? That means every account they ban is lost money for RMT. Sure, some accounts are stolen, but those accounts are then returned to their owners, yet another plus.

Armchair developers like you really should just stop trying to fix problems they know nothing about. Leave it to the professionals.

EDIT: The reason we have seen a large increase in RMT is because of the expansion. That will die off in a month or two, just like it did after 2.0 release. In the meantime, just ignore and delete.

I've stated this before in another post, but I'll say the same here too. Report in game messages and friend requests as harassment. The NA/EU reps seem to deal with it quicker than filling it under the other option (where I assume it gets sent to the mountain of work that the 3 man task force have to deal with).

Using the harassment option, every tell/friend bot I have reported has been dealt with in 5 mins or less (depending on how busy GMs are I guess). The copy/paste reply I get (usually up to 5 mins after I witness a /say bot being killed) also states that it is safe to remove that bot from the blacklist, so I can only assume that the account has banned outright. Any more bots will cost the sellers another account.

While people are still buying, they can afford to create more accounts. It's that simple. For the most part, the buyers got what they wanted. They don't give two flicks for the rest of the player base that they are pissing off by continually supporting RMT. They probably don't even see it as a problem. They don't care about the game they themselves are ruining. The same goes for botters.

We don't really have any issues on Masamune, do we? Have you logged onto a NA server where you get 3 tells per minute, always a different name? Or worse?

Never saw all that many in TERA, Aion, or Mabi, though granted I tried Mabi out in its twilight age. Yes, they were there. No one was getting multiple tells each minute.

Short of China cracking down hard on them (by which they would then move to somewhere else, like Syria) they will overwhelm the game. MMORPG's are the darknet or "deepweb" as CSI wants to call it. They all profit from the proceeds of crime when there is too much RMT activity. The real life version of this are 419's. There are very real consequences to RMT.



TERA, Aion and Mabinogi are all games that I played at some point, and the RMT activity ranged from nonstop spam to players overwhelming the party/announcement system with their own spam.

In FFXIV I just had enough of it and took Announcements and tells out of the General log and put it in another log and remove sounds from it. Now I don't have to see it when it appears. But Excalibur doesn't get very many owing to the fact that you can't ever create new accounts on the server except for the tiny window around 2-3am.

Couldn't SE take legal action against RMT websites? I'm fairly certain Nexon has done similar with gold sellers on their games (although I'm not entirely sure of their success).

Ignoring jurisdiction issues, I said this in another thread that was deleted but there's no real legal precedent to go off that would make this clearly copyright infringement. A breach of contract is not illegal by itself, and the one case I do know of that has been brought before the courts eventually settled that it's not entirely copyright infringement either. What do you actually think this would accomplish, what damages would be awarded or possible injunctions? Cite that Nexon case because there's no real legal basis there unless you can be specific.

Asking for RMT to be completely eradicated is an impossibility. Not without SE taking such aggressive measures that it winds up screwing us players. Pushing for SE to add easier ways for players to deal with the RMT is the way to go. Like a way to report RMT that isn't so cumbersome that most players don't even bother.

I damn sure didn't IMAGINE the massive increase in rmt long before Heavensward's release, and taskforce doesn't do jack *THAT ACTUALLY STOPS THE RMT ISSUE*, which is what fools like you keep apparently deliberately ignoring when this discussion comes up. Not that I imagine they were given the authority/power to actually do so. Yeah sure they banned thousands of accounts, great. Note that this doesn't stop an ocean of RMT spam pretty much everywhere that isn't perpetually locked for character creation.

And what exactly would you have SE do to "stop" RMT? The one thing these threads have in common is no one ever gives a realistic, tangible solution to the problem. It's always knee-jerk, stop-gap, band-aid fixes that would do more harm than good. Or worse, giving no real feedback at all and instead just screaming "fix it!" while they foam at the mouth.

Completely stopping RMT is virtually impossible just by its nature. Not without taking such aggressive measures that you hurt your players. The only thing we can ask for is an easier way to ignore and report RMT accounts.

You can delete names in your blacklist

Don't forget, characters don't get deleted on banned accounts. Delete the older 50 names in your list.
