I really don't understand how anyone can complain about raising the level cap. First the contstant grind for new gear of higher ilv is the same as leveling. You do stuff, and are rewarded with something that has bigger integers, which in turn mean that you are more powerful. This is leveling. it matters not whether that integer and those bigger numbers are on a piece of gear or on your character itself. Secondly this is an rpg and more specifically an mmorpg. the ENTIRE POINT is for there to constantly be more "stuff" to do that is constantly making you grow, change, and learn new stuff. FINALLY and probably most importantly, I just said new stuff. This is critical. the only way to get new abilities is to level up... that or add new abilities while keeping your level the same, which makes no sense.
P.S. I am also REALLY REALLY happy that it takes so long to get from 50 - 60, I was scared to death that the 50 - 60 jump would be a quick little hop, which would have been disappointing.
We could still learn new skills with out leveling FFXI didn't raise their level cap from 75 for a long time instead they put in the merit system that made it so instead of exp you get merit exp that you can then use to customize your job with new ability's traits and boost your stats also boost existing and new ability's. So no we don't really need a level cap raised every expansion.
A skill tree system in a game with heavily defined roles is a stupid idea. It just doesn't work.leveling in ARR was meant to be an "extended tutorial" to help you get accustomed to the gameplay and how your class/job works. In HW it just felt like filler for the story. There will always be some form of "leveling" in any game. Though I wish they would consider a "skill tree" approach to leveling this is a Final Fantasy game and I don't think they will stop until they reach that fabled lvl 99/100.
My feelings exactly! Leveling up in an expansion is exactly what I expect/want. As others have said, the linear progression could use a bit of work, but the game is still young and has time to grow.....So it's kind of like we're leveling up WITH the game itself haha.

Did you just make the claim that Dark Age never increased it's level cap? Did you just hand wave the trials, champion levels, and artifacts away? You're also neglecting to mention realm abilities. Dark Age may not have increased the hard level cap, but it certainly increased the soft level cap quite a bit. There's no way a character from the base game could even compete in the current Frontiers. As the title already says what i would wish personally for future expansions is that there is no level cap increasement which would only lead to a reset of boring level phases that no one really enjoys nowdays.
Nowdays everyone enjoys much more the experience of nice dungeons, complex boss battles and storyline... not grinding through trivial quests that no one really enjoys or is paying attention to. I understand that this is a much easier way to create content for players that increases the playtime in a total. But besides that it is nothing more than a timesink that no one really enjoys.
if you enjoy leveling there most likely will be new jobs every expansions which you have to lv from lv 1 or lv 30 on to lv 60.. which is quiet enough if you ask me.
I come from a MMorpg like Dark Age of Camelot which never increased its level cap in 10 years... it implemented content like champion levels where you had to defeat several boss encounters.. artifact weapons which could be farmed in complex open world encounters etc.
And games like Guild Wars 2 do it also without lv cap increasement. So why ever resetting the level spiral? I would welcome other, more creative content than that personally.
And at the moment i have the feeling that many people gave up leveling there classes from lv 50 to 60 after a few days and already quit before they reached the new endgame content.
The biggest problem people have with leveling is that it's not as easy to level a second job from 50 to 60 as it was a first, and that's a subjective call.
And then they raised it to 99 with Abyssea, introduced a new fast system of leveling with Abyssea's infinite chains, and breathed new life into what had been a pretty stale game at the time. (A lot of people quit when Abyssea came out because their 75 best in slots got wrecked at level 78 by vendor gear, and boy did they miss out by doing so. Abyssea was FUN.)We could still learn new skills with out leveling FFXI didn't raise their level cap from 75 for a long time instead they put in the merit system that made it so instead of exp you get merit exp that you can then use to customize your job with new ability's traits and boost your stats also boost existing and new ability's. So no we don't really need a level cap raised every expansion.
There are completionists who HAVE to get ALL the jobs to 60, but you don't have to be one of them if you don't like leveling. I got all my jobs to 50 by the time the expac dropped, and now I know I probably won't take anything more than 3-4 jobs to 60 because I really don't enjoy the others. That's okay too. Yes, the grind is long, but it's nothing like XI was.
I love how it's a IGN and Steam review score. The only people actually buying the game on steam are the insane fanboys. The story in itself is fine, but the battle system and how everything progresses is absolutely awful.
ok seriously this thread is really entertaining xD
I've mostly laughed because Tonkra is so stubborn so everyone shall have his/her opinion of the game...
First of all... this is a Forum.... called General Discussion... DISCUSSION!
Honestly when you wanna start a discussion... you must accept the opinion of other players also.
What you are doing is a whiny post... You don't like the game? then don't play it!
You don't want to level the new jobs? Then don't level them.
It's your choice what you are playing and how you are playing.
leveling new Jobs is optional. Not a must!
I've played many MMORPGs for years and I prefer the ones where you have lvl increase with expansions.
I like leveling. And I love the Story of this game (that's why I haven't started with HW yet because I'm still doing storyquests and sidequests).
So I really enjoy the new expansion. And I don't play in rush. I have time... this isn't a race who is the first at lvl 60, who is the first with all 60? idc! I play for fun and the story and enjoy it.
I say it again... When you don't like this game, don't play it. But stop whining!
