How about just buying the materia? Someone else is willing to make it for you. Also if you're so worried about failure, then don't attach more than 1 materia.I like the core Materia concept of crafters customizing/enhancing gear. I don't like the spiritbond mechanic. I don't want to have to shelve my weapon of choice in favor of another weapon I equip only to churn out materia so I can enhance the weapon I'm not actually using. This is very similar to the Trial weapons of FFXI. Equip a junk weapon in order to learn a weaponskill you can then use with your good weapon equipped. I understand wanting a sink for crafted gear and a limiting bottleneck on how much materia can be produced, but please, find another way.
I also don't like the all-or-nothing feature of adding more than one materia to an item. The price of failure is too high. A progressively lower chance of success when trying to add successive materia to an item is good, but failure should just mean loss of the latest materia being added.
