We NEED a "Gunblade" job, a sword-wielding DPS job is long over-do...

How would you feel about a 'Mystic'/'Sorcerer' class/job? Their weapon would be something along the lines of a single-hand 'spell blade', and be able to use elemental abilities to improve their attacks (different elements would have different effects)?

I suspect we'll get a gunblade class/job when the story takes the fight to the empire. So far it fits that mythos. This could also be the fabled "hybrid" job they keep eluding to, part melee part ranged. So hopefully atleast the next expack.

A garlean job pretty much. Perharps more dependant on gadgets and armor abilities than the actual shots like the MCH. It could still be a melee job like in ff8.

For that matter, even amongst the Garleans it seems to be a very rare weapon anyway, only seemingly issued to high ranking Legati like Gaius and his Tribuni....

This isn't a valid reason to not have a gunblade job. Pretty much EVERY job in the game it is insinuated that you are the sole custodian of that soul crystal that allows you to take up the job. Meaning you're pretty much the only one other than the rival you may or may not have in your job quests. This is why the majority of NPCs in the game don't have jobs, they have classes, even the scions.

Other players? As far as the story is concerned, they dont exist. you're the solitary warrior of light. The people you group with for dungeons and trials are just your comrades that you call upon for assistance. You're the hero, not them.

So rarity really isnt a factor.

I support this since I have been wanting some sort of DPS sword user. Also I've always wanted to be a Garlean-- *coughs* Umm.. Yes Swordy DPS.

Tell me about it! I've been wanting a Gunblade DPS Job for so long that i'm starting to feel a little worried that they might not ever implement it lol. I could literally see it happening though, bc its already in FFXIV technically.

They could also use some of the Garleans Gunblade attack moves/skills that were used in some of those 2.0 fights... I don't see why they'd have such a huge teaser for the Gunblade in 2.0 Storyline/Garlean Army/Lightnings Event, and never implement it like we're not able to use it or something except them lol. Kind of a punch in the face for the ones who truly want it to happen imo. xD

We get it, you want a gun-blade job, but you need to remember that this is an MMORPG with many traditional jobs already in the lore of the series so honestly while its a fun idea its very unlikely to come out until we visit the garleans.

Bumping the thread will not make the job come any faster if Square Enix wants a gun-blade job they'll add it in a future expansion but just remember that this new type of job has a lot of competition because there are many other jobs that have a bigger fan-base than a weapon.

I know this, but it's nice to see new Jobs in the works instead of the same old rehashed ones, over and over. lol, but i think you mistaken the real popularity with the Gunblade style, because i for one, was presently surprised to see how many people thought it would be an amazing idea to implement it within the game. Considering that it is FF-based and is in the FFXIV lore. And plus, FFXIV is lacking completely in sword wielding DPS. =)

This is actually not true - there are multiple instances in the game where it's shown there are mulitple copies of a soul crystal carried and equipped by multiple npcs at the same time (the PLD Job quests in particular show this, but also during the first SMN lvl 50 Job quest multiple SMN Soul Crystals are clearly seen). The only instance where it's stated that the player is the sole possesor of that Job would probably be WHM (and even then, what's to stop the padjal teaching the Job to others?), and to a lesser extent DRG (as so far as there being usually only one 'Azure DRG' at any one time - the fact that the player becomes one while Estinien is still around proves even in that case there can be many with that Job coexisting.)

Also you're confusing the use of a weapon type and the class that is connected to it - as I stated before gunblades already exist in the game as a non-specific weapon usually lumped into another class (GLA, MCH) so it makes a dedicated gunblade using class even more unlikely. The story also makes it clear gunblades are a rare weapon type. After all, why else do you only see it in the hands of a few elites and not the regular rank-and-file cannon-fodder grunts that make up the bulk of the Garlean Army?
