After Star Ocean 3?! Pulling the biggest WTF twist in the history of videogames that affected the 2 games before it and came out of nowhere! Star Ocean 4 is another ball of confusion, an MMO in the mix with whatever left field story it would tell might blow my mind.

but they could expand the storyline. write more. I mean chono coss was expanding on pat of the story. it could work, the writers would have to write a good story

But then you'd get people complaining about retcons. Like the one thing we can rely on SquareEnix to not do, is remake-and-expand their old IP's. It took them 4 generations of Consoles just to port FF4,5,6 and CT to the iPad and FF7 to the PS4, that is without a promise of a remake. They didn't want to do FF7 again unless they can overhaul the snot out of it.

And thus the issue is that we wouldn't see a "Chrono Trigger" as a MMO. We'd get something in the same spirit of it (as Chrono Cross was in the same spirit of Chrono Trigger, but it was based on some elements that were in Radical Dreamers which was the actual "sequel" for a SNES add-on before the PSX was ever available. So there are in fact "two" spin offs of Chrono Trigger) but single-player CRPG's don't translate well to MMORPG's, just look at all the market failures out there already.

Like I could see the premise working. The ability to travel to X time periods gives the game an easy path to expand. FFXIV-like dungeons can co-exist in different times simultaneously, thus instancing has a logical role in the overall storyline and world. Like if you want to exaggerate a bit. You could travel to a "unbuilt", "under construction", "new", "ruined", "destroyed" versions of each dungeon, whereby you might only be able to access certain parts of it from the UC or Ruined versions. So "completing" 600AD's "under construction" castle, would let you know where the secret rooms are, that you could then use in the 1000AD "new" castle, and also in a "ruined" version full of monsters.

The storyline from Chrono Trigger is a lot harder to shoehorn. It becomes way too theme-park MMORPG if you simply adapt the single player scenario and give everyone the same party members for solo-instance dungeons, because the storyline of Chrono Trigger was actually dependent, for the first half of the game of having Chrono being the lead character in the party, up until the other party members go back and save him. So that would simply never work in a MMORPG since you wouldn't play any secondary characters you don't create. Past that point in the game, sure I think it's doable.

^ But what I'm saying is that it doesn't have to be the same stories with the same characters. This is time travel, so essentially, they can make the player be sort of a hero that has to go back and forth through time to fix things after the events of CC or CT. And the characters in those games can just make cameo appearances. Don't forget, CC was as much about time travel as alternate dimensions. It could work, just having us, the player, playing in the world of CT/CC but not during the same time period or the same story.

Who's dissing Star Ocean as an MMORPG? Star Ocean 3 PROVES it's perfect as an MMORPG! We could get THE MMORPG story XD

But still, also big fan of Kingdom Hearts, but it would translate very similar to Ffxiv because there's a reason keybearers are rare... And of course everyone would want to be one.
