What SE (or Squaresoft for you old heads) would you like to see as an MMO?

You know, there is a series that I felt if SE would have kept it and still had it to this day, they could have made it very good......Xenogears. I know Monolith did the xenosaga series, but xenogears was first and i like that sometimes you fought as a party and then you fought as a party in your mechs. WHAAATTT!!! And i thought the story from the whole entire series was amazing. imagine that as an MMO. people creating Fei's and KOS-MOS's and Citan was a beast. Hell, they had a beast...Rico. and Bart....*digs through old storage boxes looking for PSOne...*

I also dream of SE making a FFTactics-esque game that has a mashup of different SE characters from different games, like a huge crossover. I always dreamed of having a party consisting of Cloud, Sephiroth, Crono, and Musashi.

While I have briefly thought about the potential for other Square Enix IPs to be converted into MMOs before, it's not something I'd particularly like to see happen until Dragon Quest X is localized.

The threads have become really serious as of late so I wanted to do a light-hearted thread and just see what SE games alot of you have played. I've been playing videogames since '85 and I instantly fell in love with rpg's. During the 90's Square was at the top of their game in that genre. I just wanted to know from the community what would you like to see? Also, even though I said MMO, I will take sequel request as well. Only stipulation, lets keep answers to games made by SquareEnix/Squaresoft, just out of respect.

Now, I would love for them to do either a Crono Trigger MMO or a Crono Trigger sequel. I miss those characters. And who wouldn't want to tank as Frog?

Chrono Trigger, FF6 and Super Mario RPG are at the top of the list of games that are "too good for sequels" even though I'd love to see it.

I've actually played all the FF games except 11. Hardware requirements never, ever aligned to be able to play it.

Chrono Trigger itself or at least something in the same spirit of Chrono Trigger (Ultima 2 could be considered it's spiritual predecessor, and even THAT was loosely based on the Time Travel element from the film Time Bandits. The thing all three have in common are time doors/portals that send the heros to places) would be a very hard thing to do as a MMORPG, but it also opens up some fun aspects that you can't normally do in other games.

Like, you know how instances are basically a way for the game to separate populations to prevent overload right? Well in a "time-travel" based MMORPG, you automatically invoke the multiverse. So as players "meddle more" with the timeline, they are sent from their starting "time", to "the past", and then to "present (instance X)" So players that chose to "save the girl" or whatever return to the "present" in a world where that happened, and those that didn't, go to an alternate reality. So you push the "storyline" by either doing, or undoing the past, or going into the future and learning of whatever dungeon that exists in the past and future. Thus allowing you to visit some of these places before they become ruins.

Chrono Trigger had 2300AD,1999AD (that you can't access),1000AD(starting point),600 AD, 12000BC, 65millionBC. So that makes at least 6 time periods.

But Chrono Trigger itself as a MMO could never work just because it's not large enough. It has enough storyline but it's replayability comes from new game+ which in a MMO is basically the act of "redo the storyline for giggles and no experience"

but they could expand the storyline. write more. I mean chono coss was expanding on pat of the story. it could work, the writers would have to write a good story

Not looking for an mmo but maybe a portable online adventure game similar to monster hunter for the vita. Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles would be a great re-visit and I'm talking about the Gamecube version, not the crappy wii one. Isometric, diablo-esque material farming for better gear was what that game was about and it was fun partying with 4 ppl. They can even introduce the same job system in Tactics where you can play a class but have a secondary from another class i.e Knights with Summon ability from summoners etc. to add some variety. These types of games always do well in Japan so why not?

I was hoping that SE would eventually make an offline version of FF11 on ps3/4/vita with dissidia style combat system with less aerial emphasis and balanced around 4 player internet party play (while still having FFXI trappings like subjobs and all that) where'd you have the city hubs and maps based on the zones in FF11 and have missions and side missions based on the game's msqs and side stories. But instead we got nexon..

Chrono cross was sequel to Chrono Trigger. The story wasn't the same, gameplay was different, but a lot of aspects were the same. Chrono, Marle and Luca were part of the story. It's not a direct sequel, but it is a sequel.

Final Fantasy Tactics all day. It's actually a game that was begging to be an MMO. It didn't focus so much on every named character being so special that it would be ridiculous to be a PC in an MMO. There was a lot of 'generic-ness ' while maintaining clear cut job identities regardless of who the character was. Plus the setting, world, and lore is awesome.
