From what I can tell, buffs and CDs draining MP just seems to darkside's natural drain happening to coincide with the use of these CDs. Using CDs outside of combat shows a small loss of MP roughly equal to darkside's drain, but using CDs while smacking a dummy shows nothing out of the ordinary. Looks like that "issue" is just us being paranoid.

Dark Passenger's definitely broken, though. Don't have Abyssal Drain yet, but I can believe it's busted too. I have no idea how they managed to trade one useful but not overpowered bug for one that makes multiple skills worthless.

    It's not, though.

Go to a dummy, get in combat, wait for Darkside to tick then immediately use Shadowskin or any other manaless buff. You will lose MP twice. The second loss hits you even harder, because you don't have your natural MP regen to help offset the cost.

You can wait for it to tick again after that, then right click your buff to remove it. Again, you'll lose mana twice.

This would be fine if the skill's description, instead of being 'MP is slowly drained', were changed to 'Dude, name a thing that happens to you. You lose MP for that.'

i tested it multiple times now and it's not doing it for me. i have a natural lose of 127mp/tic while in combat and that's it. maybe there is more to it but in my test there was no issue (other than DA + DP/AD not working correctly)

I've done more testing, and it's as Hundred described it in the previous page. Buffs/debuffs make Darkside tick down, but the MP is refunded on the next tick, so it's more of a visual error than anything. That being said, it's pretty weird that it does this at all, and it can theoretically cause real problems if your MP gets low enough.

For instance, if you have just about enough MP to use Dark Arts(or let's call it anything that uses MP) and your MP ticks down because of regen/poison/self buff you won't have enough MP to use that ability until the game corrects itself. It's not game-breaking(the time window in which all this happens is very short), but it can be enough to throw you off. Obviously, you have other things to worry about if your MP gets that low.

Not sure how you can't see it, or what else you can do to get it to go off. I can clearly see it happening when I buff myself or receive a buff from a friend. Even though, again, the MP doesn't actually go away the whole MP rollercoaster is clearly visible on the bar.

This whole thing is incredibly weird.

Yep, I take it back. Did a little more dummy testing, then ran a dungeon with an AST and DRG. I consistently hit 0 MP, when last night, running the exact same dungeon, I would only get low if I spammed unleash too much. This is completely absurd, I have to leave darkside off every other pull or I don't have enough MP to continue.
