lorel, please just stop trying to justify that you're spreading misinformation to troll others. Your initial post is not an indication of HW sales in the slightest, nor are your anecdotes. Until SE actually realeases sales figures, can we have this topic locked, please?

To be fair, I don't see any misinformation. The link he sent are actual numbers of sales. It may only be EU and retail but those numbers aren't really something to be proud of. Granted this is not everyone who bought the game, obviously. Let us not pretend it is a good thing and try to wish it away though. We should be sad it didn't sell better and move on. Not defend it with random excuses on why it did not sell well.

I bought my copy of HW on GMG when it went up for pre-order, I'm sure I wasn't the only one, so quite a few sales there even before release.

Also, people might buy ESO now but, as someone who tried it on PC release, it has little longetivity imo.

Obviously these numbers don't tell the whole story, but FFXIV has had the PS4 MMO scene on lock(unless you count DCUO-ugh) so ESO is the first real competition it has. It's new to the PS4, B2P is always going to be more welcoming then P2P, and ESO apparently has more customizable options, so of course it's going to lure people in.

The title is misleading but anyone who can read the article can see otherwise. It doesn't require any hand holding to understand such simplified data. Could he have worded the title differently? Yes. Is it misleading? Yes. But anyone who just takes the title as fact and doesn't read the link he has given is fooling themselves.

Elder Scrolls has been advertised quite heavily in the UK (its on all the buses and billboards), quite obvious it'll sell in larger volumes really not to mention being on Xbox and lastly lets not forget Heavensward is an expansion to even be in the top 10 is quite an accomplishment.

Nevermind that this game is mostly sold through its own online store and is still a steam top seller, we are just doomed, retail is where the real money is at for mmos and pc games.

Doesn't neccisarily mean much. That said, new players and existing players without 50's or advanced story progress have litterally no reason at all to buy the expansion. There's nothing in it, besides access to the race, that can even be used by a sub-50 or a 50 that hasn't finished all the story quests it's locked behind.

This is pretty much a mistake in my opinion. An expansion needs to have something interesting for every type of player, casual to hardcore, max level and low level. The race, if you even like it (seems extremely lazy to me) is not much of a draw since XIV is not a game that really encourages rolling Alts. You never actually need more than one character in this game.

Honestly, I don't really care about the whole 'my game's dick is bigger than your game's bologna sandwiches' nonsense. ESO is a 'once and done' purchase whereas XIV is a constant monetary commitment where, after just 5-6 months, you've not only spent enough to buy a copy of ESO, you're going to be doing it again 5-6 months later and yet again 5-6 months after that. And that's not counting what you spent on the expansion rights themselves. So ESO is raking in slightly more than Heavensward. If ESO intends to stay viable it's going to need to have some great stuff in that cash shop, they're relying heavily on the 'kindness' of players.
