RPers, I have a request.

Teppie, at the moment it appears Hyperion is also locked up tight. While I doubt it's as bad as Gilgamesh and Balmung, it's still under restriction - for the moment. That being said, I'm wary of committing to something without some assurances. One of my favorite pastimes is walking into RPs or sitting and watching them play out. I worry that I'll get there and find nothing.

I'm not so certain trying to start an RP community, at least the way that I play, will be successful. I'm far better at melding into established communities than I am at starting my own.

EDIT: I'm not a member of the FFXIV roleplayers website, but I'd like to see this matter under discussion there. The times I've visited there tells me that they're all pretty much only on Balmung and Gilgamesh. I don't feel comfortable trying to bring this up myself as - again - I can't actually get into those servers and participate, so it'a not really my place to bring it up except here where it reaches a wider audience.

I know what you mean Lord Narguul. I felt the same way about the place. It advertises as for everywhere but really Balmung Dominates. BUT there are places listed as "other" in the linkshell section and that's how I got involved with the Lamia RPers after joining up. I'm one of the founding members for the Brynhildr RPer group and we RP in LS so you can voyeur if you want.

To be honest, it feels like both North American datacenters are pretty much not taking any new characters. That's how I ended up on the EU datacenter despite being from NA. Well, that and the leader of my FC had a discussion with me on Steam about my return on a new account and invited me to join his FC. Earlier I tried making a character only to find that the whole datacenter Hyperion was on was shut down to new players.

I'm not a fan of groups that only RP in guildspeak/FC/LS speak. I prefer "live" roleplay.

I would caution against them picking anything but Blamung as the official RP server for NA, simply because even if they select another server, Balmungites will stay on Balmung. Multiple trillions of gil have been invested in housing districts of RP friendly and RP-centric housing, including groups that have multiple houses in territories for Rp purposes. You're not going to get RPers to just give that up regardless of what your opinion is of the practice.

Thing is people are already uprooting themselves in the hopes that Balmung is truly indeed the RP paradise it gets advertised as. You can still RP in non-RP labled servers, just like you can still raid in RP servers. It's just going to be a bit harder to get things going. Balmung can still be an RP server, but given the sheer number of people interested in RP in this community we need more than Balmung. There is no easy solution to this problem, but if we can find a better idea the devs would like I'd be all for it.

Another possibility would be to add a new server for each data center, clearly labeled as "RP, PvE, PvP" what have you as a test run to see how many people migrate to it. Though that would cost extra money on SE's end.

OP, if you're looking for normal RP, hyperion might be the wrong one. I'm in hyperion and I'm not interested in RP and the only thing I ever see from Tepe from the very first time I saw him is ERP. Even the PFs were all either suggestive or blatant promotion for some kind of RP brothel. I've never seen any other sort of RP from anyone else either.

As a roleplay, i would just bite the bullet and move to Balmung, seems a bit more stable.

To get on to a crowded server look at SE's schedule for maintenance. Create a character beforehand, then five or so minutes before the servers get taken down/after they get brought up character creation should be unlocked.

Fan-bloody-tastic. So I'm literally left only with Gilgamesh and Balmung. Which is the heart of the very problem.

People have come in and said "we RP on this server" but I have no indication that it isn't anything more than ten people who will be mocked and ridiculed or told to "go to Balmung". This is turning into a serious request to the RP community located on Balmung and Gilgamesh. Please, help to break the notion that roleplay should only exist there. I'll put the request out again, and will continue to do so: Please, PLEASE put up a thread on the roleplayer's site about this. I can't do it, because by order of new character restrictions I am locked out of those servers and I feel immensely uncomfortable posting a thread on the matter when I can't talk to boots on the ground.

This kind of gymnastics really shouldn't be necessary just to get into a roleplaying community, a community that has a good reputation for being open and inclusive to all who genuinely want in.

Your only other real alternative would be to create your own group and hope it grows into something. I know outside of the big two, Behemoth has a fairly stable RP community, albeit small. However I've yet to see any harassment of said parties.
