RPers, I have a request.

Please, PLEASE expand beyond Gilgamesh and Balmung. I would love to get into the RP community as a returning player on a brand new account, but I have been up past 3AM PDT and neither of those servers have been open to character creation. I feel locked out of a community I long very much to be a part of. Heck, the only reason I'm on a EU server is because I can never seem to get past the lobby errors.

So please, expand, or preferably, relocate to a less populous server. Gilgamesh and Balmung simply do not accept new players. And, I suspect, even being an old player is increasingly difficult.

I've tried to start an RP group on Hyperion, most people tell me just go to Balmung but I love Hyperion and have no intention of leaving. It's small, but it's active if anyone's interested in checking us out.

I don't think this is necessarily true, and in the long term is becomes and issue especially with regards to server population. I mean, Balmung for example is nearly closed 24/7 so making a new character on it is next to impossible. It's really more about creating a sustainable community outside of those two servers which is quite possible as long as more people start doing it. In the long term, spreading out roleplaying throughout the servers is both feasible and a good thing, it'd make Balmung and Gilgamesh less bloated and it'd also allow people who've been on a server (Besides Balmung and Gilgamesh) for a long time to enjoy something different without leaving the server.

From what I've seen as long as you're actively recruiting for more members, and maintain a good atmosphere the same people are going to keep coming back for more. You might lose some, you gain some, but once established most RP'ers don't just die off.

You can do what I did, try to make it happen. It didn't exist, so I tried to create it and it's been a huge success. It's not as big as Balmung but it works.

See, now I don't think "Just pay 18 dollars if you want to roleplay" is a good idea, especially considering some roleplayers have alts and all that.

The problem with this is it's absolutely ludicrous to be forced into this situation and does not help the underlying issue. It's simple misfortune that has Balmung and Gilgamesh as over-populated as they are. Adding to that population just makes the problem worse.

The simple fact is, the RP community needs an expanded home. The ones they have now are fast becoming locked and gated communities rather than the open communities roleplayers tend to foster.

This is why I made a thread requesting they officially label the servers for different interests (PvE, PVP, RP, etc.). Maybe I should go find bump that. I assumed the HW topics were more important so I didn't track it.

But either way, this problem doesn't concern just RP fans. I get the feeling raid groups and other player interests would have a much easier time actually finding people to do those things with if they had a very clear indication of what servers were available. And Balmung and Gilga can't hold the load of everyone from every interest forever.
