A serious discussion about abridging the story quest 1-50 (discouraging new players)

erm exept from the Zam interview, where YoshiP clearly states that FFXIV is that way and it will be that way till 4.0 where they might at shortcuts to older story and Season 1 is ARR so u cant skip it to move in HW which is HW cuse the team want u to know whats going, if u want to skip the cutscenes etc ie fast forward (which i think u misunderstand to mean optional story rather than make it easier to go trough the story) that up the player as an individual

ps: never said if ppl dont like the story they should go play something else i said if the ppl dont like the fact that story gates content they should go play something....i know a lot of ppl that have just skip every single cutscene for abc reason...havent heard complain that it gates stuff beacuse their goal is beyond that and have no problem to spend 1h to get there and they understand that this is how the game works

Funny I don't know what is going on at all. I have been esc mashing to get this crap done. Guess I am a failure to the SE team LOL. They should have made this a single player rpg if they wanted the story and gating to matter that much. If it were I would care about the story as this would not be an MMO and it would not be my character I created.

lastly, It should be my choice to do the story or not. Just because it has a story which is only ONE aspect of this game, there are many others that are enjoyable to me and many others who play for those OTHER features and could give a crap about the story.

I would rather fate grind my way to 60 instead of this MSQ crap because to me, THAT is fun, not this solo mission crap. That defeats the whole purpose of an mmorpg.

You can do just that, skip ALL CS to level cap and get it done once ASAP, so you can do mindless FATE grind and continue to roleplay. Everyone has to go through the MSQ once then they are free to do what they want. It's great when you level alt, since you know what to do, and all those MSQ are nothing but "activities" that gives boatload of XP, not worse than spamming buttons on FATEs.

i have to say im suprised that ppl have issue with MSQ gate everything since it has been that way since 2.0-2.55 and it was clear that was the direction the game had from then and also stated long ago that HW would have required 2.55 to access

how you have not either complain about it when u got the game or heard about HW but now decided it should be optional its beyond me (or at least complain about it in this vocal manner)

but jobs arent just gated by lvl combination, you also need to be to certain point in story to have access them (granted not as much as need for the new ones)..so needing to do story for job isnt exacly new

Think about it this way, from the way the game naturally progresses you. You start as your class. You are "gated" on changing classes until you make a certain amount of progress. Afterwards, you are free to change your class to any class you unlock. You are then "gated" on jobs, based on your class level combinations. You can play any job you have the right levels for...

Unless you want one of the new jobs. Then you need to beat all of 2.0 - 2.55, get 50, get geared, get to Isghard, and unlock the new classes. There's a pretty wide gap between what is required to unlock PLD and what is required to unlock DRK.

EDIT -

It isn't about whether "some" story gating is new or not, it's about the quantity of story required. I even stated in my example that yes, this is a requirement for other jobs, but not to this extent.

Then maybe he'll change his mind when he sees the 65 likes the OP has.

He acknowledges that people are skipping the story via mashing esc anyway. If they understand that people are actually quiting the game from boredom, maybe they'll step up the timetable a bit.

It shouldn't really be surprising.

People who have been away from the game for years probably aren't watching the lodestone for info about stuff like that (why would they be?).

In many of the cases that were mentioned in this thread, these are people who were asked to come back by a friend who cautiously accepted the offer.

Like I said, you never know why someone will play an MMO, but you should take the sub money either way.

You know SE specializes in single player RPGs right? You know that is what the Final Fantasy series is, right? Storytelling in video game format?

Just because they decided to MMO-ize one of their stories doesn't mean they have no business doing it. It's what makes them unique and different in the realm of MMOs. If you want minimal story and all battles, you should find another game.

Exactly where on the pc box, or ps3, ps4 box, SE store or Steam does it say that? Or on any of the commercially available promotional material?

Now put packing peanuts into that cake to make it bigger and more full and appearing to have a lot more chocolate in it. You wouldn't want to eat the packing peanuts. In fact I doubt you would buy a cake if you knew that 50% of it was packing peanuts. Almost assuredly you wouldn't eat the whole thing.
