A serious discussion about abridging the story quest 1-50 (discouraging new players)

to sum it up: U dont like that story gates basicly everything...go play something else, stop trying to chance the game to force ur playstyle

if some1 tells me that they dont like doing main story for whatever reason i will point them to the direction of another MMOs instead of going to the forums and demand the devs to chance the game


with the amount of MMOs out here its bound ppl will find their prefer one....the age when it was either WoW or the highway is long gone..im glad SE is sticking to their guns (even if i dont like some of their decisions)...this game doesnt 10mil sub or any MMO for that matter.it needs 500k-1mil dedicated fans and it should be fine

HW story is a "second season" from ARR story, u have to do it and deal with it. If u dont like CS just skip it. Main story help u to lv up a bit faster, even in ARR. And lv 50 story quest only take u about 4-6 hours.

HW Main Story not even make sense if u dunno anything bout ARR.

Looks like some ppl wants to be the "Hero of ligth" who:

Know no shit about Eorzean nations
Never interact with Eorzean ppl or beast tribes till HW
Never killed Levi/ King Mog / Shiva / Ramuh (cuz thats all lv 50 stuff)
Never beat the empire or destroy Ultima...

so... some ppl wants to be a really shity Hero compare to us, who did all ARR MS
FFXIV will never be a generic MMO withou story or an Insta 50 like WoW is doing.

I am NOT a warrior of light, end of argument and discussion. Any story SE makes for MY character is null and VOID as I have stated before.

This character has a fully written 10 page backstory that I myself wrote for him when I started this game up again in march. I recently added another 5 pages last night to his story which includes HW and what he is doing now and WHY he is doing it. He is My character. He makes his own story as he goes along in this VIRTUAL WORLD with his wife.

I have finished the MSQ and am doing it in HW and am SKIPPING EVERY! I am not reading one ounce of txt or watching any cut scene in this game as I make my story, NO ONE ELSE DOES! I am not a warrior of light. I am Bathu'ra Lihzeh, High protector and husband to Keraada Lihzeh. Destroyer of Primals.

My character does what he does to Protect his wife and to make himself more powerful and get better equipment so he will better be able to do his duty at protecting her. He does NOT care about anything or anyone else else. He is a ninja and a husband, thats all and that is what he wants.

I do not like the story being required. It's a cruddy movie that takes 20 hours to watch before you can do whatever you want. In FFXI, you might not be able to raid without some story, but there were relevant things ou could do. Grind gil, grind EXP, that kinda stuff. I just returned, and I am dreading the dumb story.

This is how I play. I make my own story and skip all the bullcrap that SE has been spewing at me end of story for me. I will continue to play with my wife and we will have fun raiding and doing dungeons.

Wow does not gate their expansion by any stupid MSQ. It is gated by a level cap which is enough of a gate. Hell I cant even make a new toon to play becase I am not going through that MSQ crapfest again just to have a lalafell race. I want to have this toon and a lalafell but I am stuck CHOOSING one because SE made this stupid decision.

I think a lot of players here misunderstood this expansion, they were expecting something like Destiny "House of Wolves" or upcoming Taken King. $40 worth of a mere 5 hours of "story" at best. Or another Call of Duty, Grand Theft Auto, Skyrim etc... do what you want to do ASAP NOW. At least once you go through the MSQ, you are free to do anything you see fit, aka "grind your XP till you are blue in the face".

didnt say ur wrong....im basicly the opposite i love emercing myslef in the current world i am and follow said story and see how it goes, if i can make decision i make from a light rp stance depending how the conv goes

also even if have ur own story that mean "your story" gates stuff, in a way, since your story grows parallel to SE one, so im assuming u do the quests for different reason that the npcs wanted for you etc....it doesnt mean u skip the story per se just u following ur own...or im assuming it does,not the into that deep rp

Point 1. If someone does not like the storyline, this not the right game for them.

This is an outdated and outlandish viewpoint. It's also your opinion, one I and numerous others in this thread disagree with.

We have Yoshi-P HIMSELF saying that it's fine to "fast forward" through the story. Making it optional from there is only a logical conclusion.

Point 2. All Final Fantasy games are like this

As for the Gay Marriage analogy... you fail to understand what the Gay Marriage fight is about. Everyone deserves equal treatment and consideration under the law.

Yes, I SAID that in the post I made the comparison in, but the arguments against gay marriage and gating the story are IDENTICAL.

The only argument against it that anyone has put forth has been "I don't like it", with a few bits thrown in about how it "ruins" the story, when it doesn't actually change the story at all.

It is possible to have a story in a game, yet people will still PLAY that game without liking the story one bit.

You keep saying people should go play WoW, which is actually fairly ironic because WoW has a bigger, LONGER (and some might say better) story than FFXIV, yet it doesn't force anyone to see it.

And even more ironic is the fact that I'm playing FFXIV INSTEAD of WoW because of FFXIV's superior game mechanics...
