A serious discussion about abridging the story quest 1-50 (discouraging new players)

Point 1. If someone does not like the storyline, this not the right game for them.

This is an outdated and outlandish viewpoint. It's also your opinion, one I and numerous others in this thread disagree with.

We have Yoshi-P HIMSELF saying that it's fine to "fast forward" through the story. Making it optional from there is only a logical conclusion.

Point 2. All Final Fantasy games are like this

Very few FF games are also MMOs.

As for the Gay Marriage analogy... you fail to understand what the Gay Marriage fight is about. Everyone deserves equal treatment and consideration under the law.

Yes, I SAID that in the post I made the comparison in, but the arguments against gay marriage and gating the story are IDENTICAL.

The only argument against it that anyone has put forth has been "I don't like it", with a few bits thrown in about how it "ruins" the story, when it doesn't actually change the story at all.

by that logic no video game in the history of video games should have any story of any shape or form since well....we can just make up one

It is possible to have a story in a game, yet people will still PLAY that game without liking the story one bit.

I know, right?!

You keep saying people should go play WoW, which is actually fairly ironic because WoW has a bigger, LONGER (and some might say better) story than FFXIV, yet it doesn't force anyone to see it.

And even more ironic is the fact that I'm playing FFXIV INSTEAD of WoW because of FFXIV's superior game mechanics...
