    Thoughts on ruin 3

    I just got smn to 54 last night and unlocked ruin III. (I'm posting these numbers from memory so I might not be 100% accurate) Its like 120 potency which is nice but like 500 mp. Ruin 1 is only 80 potency but only about 50 some mp. With such a high cost for another 40 potency it doesn't sound viable for a long fight but I don't have dread wyrm trance yet. Maybe when I unlock that I'll have mp to burn.

    Any ideas?

    DWT lowers the MP cost of Ruin 3 to be equal with ruin. It's only meant to be used as filler during DWT.

    I am only level 57 but I like using it during trash pulls or out solo playing. Once I have all my dots up, and painflare/fester is on CD, I like to fire off ruin 3. My ruin/ruin 2 hits around 350ish whereas ruin 3 is smacking 500 with crits at 750. Is this optimal, probably not, but what the heck, my mp regen is a lot higher than before Heavensward.

    Ruin 3 is not totally useless even without DW stance. I used it bit yesterday in Bismark ex and you can utilize it pretty well if there is downtime or if your healers need mana song you will gain too much extra mana and you should utilize that as well. In dummy like fights I m not sure it is better burn your mana for ruin 2 + extra auto attacks instead. Need also more testing, but in some fights i have noticed you can freely use ruin 3 without stance until 50 - 60% mana. It also depends lot of your encounter what kind of fight it is.

    Now that I'm 58 the cost went up to 800ish without DWT. I use it for solo too or if the fight isn't going to last long enough to worry about mp issues. Has anyone learned a good rotation or optimal use of DWT yet? (Can't wait for deathflare) /kefka laugh

    That's a glorious definition of unnecessary ability or button bloat.

    If you're expected to only use Ruin 3 during DWT - why not simple have DWT increase the damage of Ruin by an addition 50%.

    For many of the Heavenwards action i get a feeling that they were added to get classes up to 5 new actions - not because they make much sense.

    The biggest suggestion I can give you for DWT is to save Tri-Disaster for use when in trance. 15 seconds sounds like a long time but it really isn't if you try to recast any dots or anything. Ideally you want to reset dots via Tri-Disaster then get back to spamming Ruin III before hitting Deathflare at the last second. If you can pop Raging Strikes immediately before entering trance then even better!

    I just got deathflare an hour ago and I am in love with it. I don't know which is optimal right now but I have been using raging strikes outside of DWT. I've been using DWT+tri disaster then ruin 3 until the end for a deathflare. I'm trying to spread out raging and DWT. Not sure if one method is better than the other but I did do raging+DWT on my first deathflare. Hit 3407 /kefka laugh

    The cooldown on Raging Stikes means you can hit it once every three DWTs so if you get the timing right you'll never be waiting to burn RS. Once you hit the first one the cooldowns from then on should line up perfectly to always use it immediately before DWT. When you consider that you can then have Garuda use Contagion on those dots with a 30% damage bonus as well as get a 30% bonus to Deathflare and Ruin III... It's definitely preferable to combine the two buffs. If you're clever with your opener you can even get a 30% bonus to Fester and Painflare as well.
