My guess is that the bridge has been like that for a long time. Perhaps it broke before the Ishgardians were exiled to Coerthas and the rubble was cleared before the betrayal.

Since the bridge in question is in Sharlayan, it can't have been abandoned for more than 15 years.

22 years, actually. 15 years from the Battle of Silvertear and the start and end of 1.0, 5 years for the start of ARR, and then 2 more years for the end of the ARR story when the start of the Seventh Astral Era begins.

It wasn't abandoned at the time of Silvertear Falls. It was abandoned during the first year of Alphinaud and Alisae's life; they were 10 when Louisoix left for Eorzea; five years passed from that to the start of ARR; something less than a year has passed from ARR to HW. All in all, it's been abandoned about 15-16 years or so. And yes, that means Alphinaud founded the Crystal Braves at, like, 16.

Edit: Correction. I went back and looked at the old timeline thread. We were both kinda wrong. It appears it was abandoned around the time of Silvertear Skies, but that was only 10 years before 1.0 started.
