Yeah, I dunno. I think having a level requirement would have been enough, but I also think they really want people to understand the story (it's FF after all). It wouldn't be so bad if half the quests weren't just running around to collect sentences and short paragraphs from NPC's.

This is an *expansion*. Not the base game. Really should be self-explanatory. This has nothing to do with a lack of empathy. More like misplaced expectations. There is no need to rush anything; this isn't a race, it is a journey through the world SE has created for us, and if you can't be bothered with taking the time to really enjoy it and smell the roses, that's like going to a high class restaurant and scarfing down your meal like a dog not tasting anything. And all that accomplishes is leaving you with an empty, unsatisfied feeling. The content of this game is not going anywhere, and SE finds multiple ways to get higher level people to keep running older content, not to mention making leveling and catch-up gearing far far easier for new people than it has ever been before. I find it rather absurd to be viewing the time and effort required to catch up to current story content as insurmountable. Take a look around on various threads on the forum and you'll see plenty of anecdotes of just how easy it really is. I can understand it may seem like a lot of work at first, but when you take into account how everything is set up, and actually get into it...it's a whole different picture.

Edit: Seriously though, people are looking at the restriction like its some huge insurmountable task, but it's really just time consuming if you don't know what you're doing. I mean, it only took me a short while after i hit 50 to catch up, and that was months ago.

I know what I'm doing, and I still see the quests as a chore... right now at least.

I did the story because I enjoy going through the story, but I do it in my own pace. If I want to do other things, I can just stop doing story and do those instead. But right now, I have a ton of story quests to catch up to if I want to do the new stuff given in Heavensward.

The TC was just disappointed. They didn't really whine about it.

I can imagine thinking you beat the main story (which technically you do) after Ultima, then realize you were mistaken and you have at least a day (if not more) of random (mostly annoying) quest grinding to do. I've done it on three characters, so yeah - I get it. On the other hand, as someone mentioned, now that the quests give XP, you'll probably burn through the quests AND level to 60 on the way on whatever you main job is right now. So you'll get "new content" a day (or a few days) later than others, but you'll probably be several levels higher on your main job and that's pretty cool, honestly.

Still, I get the disappointment - and I don't get all the bad attitudes in this thread. Doesn't kill you to actually read a post, take it for face value, be supportive or leave. The TC didn't even "wish it were different' just stated how bummed out they were. Find some empathy, community.

Movies are linear experiences. MMOs are not, or at least I hope this particular game isn't.

Just like watching any series... if Story mode is the only thing FFXIV has to offer, then I have no qualms going through Story mode in order to catch up. Fortunately, this game has more to offer than just linear storytelling.

Thank you for explaining all of that, but I am well aware and you appear to have completely missed the point of why I wrote what I wrote to begin with!

Why do people get so frustrated and angry that someone else has different feelings about something! And it's not even something that affects anyone here in ANY WAY!!!!
He was just venting, expressing some disappointment and maybe looking for some compassion!


And forgive me if I mistook all the (and I quote) "Deal with it or play something else" attitude with anger - I mean damn! It just seems like such a contradictory thing to do... I mean I'm rather happy that I have more people to play with, it also means the game will likely live longer and experience more support and updates (after all, more players = more money = more interest from the company managing the game).

Well, so far, this game has been pretty linear.
Even patch Primals have been gated behind story AND previous patch Primals.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but Ninja is also hiding behind MSQ, isn't it?

However, there is always plenty of content available to do that does not involve the main story. It just so happens the content you (and many others) want to do is behind the main story content. I'd just like to point out that the story of FFXIV (and any story that's trying to be clear and coherent) is very linear and it wouldn't make too much sense to allow you into barred areas without doing the leg work to be allowed into the barred areas.

I do sympathize with disappointment and frustration, but I also think that for the purposes of telling a good story and being an immersive world, this is a good move for the content in question.

I think there was a serious misunderstanding here, or this community is just filled with a bunch of jerks. I fully intend, and truly wish to do all the story content. I am not "rushing" through anything. I have leveled both dragoon and fisherman to level 50, and I have a couple of other level 30 classes in the works as well. What I was simply stating is that I wish I could continue the rest of the main story and side quests using one of the new classes.

I did not ask for access to the full game, just the simple option to use whatever job I so desire. As far as the people who said "I guess you should of finished the main story then"....I have only been playing for a month now. I did originally play at 2.0 release but had to quit due to school, but I rejoined a month ago and have been steadily moving along. Dont get it twisted!
