No, I will not throw away all these event items and the ones filled with memories like my very first Allagan Weapon, dropped on my very first T5 down.
I'll also not throw away all these materias I have just because Lv.V is on the way.
Same, that pre-50 gear is staying with me since I still have to level some crafting classes (which is also why I won't throw away old "junk mats", because I'll need them) and because the new classes are Lv30.

You cannot just throw away everything and call it a day.

Seriously tho', why the hell don't you want free inventory space? In what way will that harm you?
Everyone against the idea of free inventory space just sounds like they are saying something like this: "I don't want to end world hunger because I have enough things to eat already, thank you very much."

This is why we can't have nice things.

But remember that this is a RPG game, and with all RPGs (I have played atleast) there are limitation to how much you can hold at once. We are given a choice on what we wanna keep and sell etc etc.

BTW, most event/season stuff can be bought by a vendor (as long as you finished it once). I have done so several times and sold on the market and earned myself a few GIL doing so.

And ofc I don't mean that you have to throw away EVERYTHING you have stored. But maybe sort out stuff you havn't used for a long time and perhaps sell it for a few GIL on the market. And if needed later on, buy some or gather it yourself.
Since the prices on the marker changes constantly you could sell something and later buy it much cheaper. I have done so many times aswell and earned more in the long run, itemwise and GILwise.

That explains a lot. You literally have no idea. In this game if you want to be good at 1 crafting class you need to be good at all of them (devs admitted it and that's why to try to change some of it the specialization system is coming up). And having those multiple classes mean your inventory is gonna get destroyed. One of the worst offenders is the division between NQ and HQ items/mats. The upcoming HQ to NQ conversion is gonna help, but what about those items you know you'll eventually need HQ? You'll still need to hoard them.

I understand how frustrating it must be for crafters especially. But maybe 1 person can't be best at everything and have to choose a little. This is an MMO, maybe work together with other people like in the FC or something. Some people might focus more on Blacksmithing while others on Tailoring and so on. And work together with materials and such.

But we have the option to get more space by additional retainers. Allas I find it rather poorly made that it is a monthly cost to hire them. If it was a 1time purchase it would've been much better for everyone. Or atleast 1-2 more retainers being 1time purchase and the rest monthly for those that are truly dedicated and need space.

No, no, this is not only about being self-sufficient. It's also about cross-class skills. Later on in order to craft anything HQ you're gonna need to cross skills from multiple classes (stuff like hasty touch, tricks of the trade, innovation, ingenuity...) and use them all in the process of crafting a single item. And moreso if you want to be able to craft 3 and 4 star items, as better tools and new recipes are traded in Mor Dhona for batches of certain HQ items that are nearly impossible to craft otherwise. It all boils down that if you want to craft anything past lvl 50 you need to take pretty much all classes to 50. It's not a choice.
