Smn Discussion; glamour v egi

1. No. FFXIV's iteration is not at all close to what summoner actually is in the FF series. Nowhere close. Even the idea that we aren't getting new summons, but rather an ability to glamour the ones we have really depresses me.

2. IMO they should scrap egi's an use this idea of trance for all the primals - in the place of egi's. This idea essentially is what we were all told SMN was going to be in 2.0 and we were all very surprised when they eventually showed us that it was a pet job instead. We were told it would utilize the essence of the primals, this trance idea is more close to that than egi's.

3. Given my idea above, this would encompass every primal at some point or another. not just 3, or glamour.

I don't see having both Trance and Egi too much of an issue. What was given at launch might have been a disappointment, but going forward from HW we have a nice mechanic to bring it back to the vision people have for summoner. Trance additions to boost dps, egi's to provide utility and support. Lessen the mp cost and cast time of the egi summon spells to allow swapping in fights. Ifrit/Garuda would be for a purer dps build and a new support type pet, which does minimal dps on it's own, would provide tactical decisions for the player. For example, using my confusion support pet in "Battle in the Big Keep" when the four dragon heads are out, they would take a chunk of damage each time they attack while the pet is alive.

I totally understand, but I guess my point was that FFXIV SMN is not a FF "summoner" at all. I personally would just love them to remove egi's and start over. I commented purely just to express my idea/thoughts and contribute to the thread. I don''t care to defend my position tbh. You may like red, but I like blue - and that's ok.
