I want to wear other people's underwear!

I see people using the race-specific smallclothes for glamour all the time, and there are some combinations I'd like to try but can't due to race restrictions. I would like to see them all made available to everyone.

AFAIK "underwear" is identical for most of the races because it's part of the base model, what you're talking about is the "emperor's new clothes" glamor. So you won't see this purely because it would involve another base model X variants of underwear.

The starting clothes on the other hand, and some of the seasonal gear is gender/race locked because that would involve creating new models that almost nobody would use.

Off hand, the only "gender-neutral" clothing I've ever seen in any MMORPG was in Mabinogi, was the starter human dress/pants, where indeed the male players could wear the female starter skirt, and females could wear the starter pants. Only one player ever did that. And the animation wasn't tied to the clothing set... it was tied to the gear. I discovered that one of the weapon items would switch the character to using all the female animations and some crazy fun was had with that and the "fashion show" for a while before people became disinterested in it.

In the context of FFXIV, they would have to explicitly make such a thing (see Hildibrand wearing a wedding dress), but they would also need to make one for every race.

When I found out the hempen clothes were race/sex-changing I was so curious to see my version just to find out male miqo'te underpants are just normal, not even short, shorts.. Why.

I do however think the Hyur Highlanders got the best of all the hempen underwear (or should I say hempen bondage gear) versions, and my male Highlander alt looks so good in his I've changed my mind about going Au Ra when it comes out. It's amazing how many double-takes I get in gear that cost me like 50 gil in mats to craft.

Friend! <3 Though no seriously, I know what you're talking about and you're right. There were always the two or four people that would run around the server in those but that was it.

That said, Mabinogi is also the only other MMORPG I can think of that's as diverse with character equipment as FF14 is. I know a lot of people think FF14 is pretty limiting (and in some cases there's some odd decisions going into the limits we have, yes), but for the most part almost every piece of gear in the entire game can be worn by any race and either gender. People do not realize how rare this actually is even in current MMOs. In that regard Mabinogi spoiled me because even...Twelve, 2008 when it came out it was literally the only MMO that allowed as much customization as it did, and I think it spoiled me to other MMOs until FF14 entered my life.

Anyway, on topic: it's not necessary but I don't see the harm it would to allow this. I agree that the races need some kind of race-specific gear to make them special/show their heritage, but I don't think underwear/hempen set should be it, personally. Let people wear whatever they please under their clothes.

Yes that's a super idea. I want to wear the female midlander and miqo'te hempen camise and pantalettes on my female Au Ra. Midlanders got the best one imo.
