But yeah, this whole design point they made with the fem Au Ra is contradictory to the role even you play in the game. You're the chosen fighter amidst all this, and the one leading the charge into the fray. I'm not sure where they expected this concept to fit unless Yugiri is going to the one exception and any fem Au Ra NPCs we run across are going to be completely useless. Sad for it to be that way if it's so.... one of the bigger things driving me away from Mi'qote is how you see most of their NPCs portrayed. It blemishes the image I have of my own character no matter how much I make her different.
Oh yeah, I totally feel you, Y'shtola and two of the Moon Keepers you see during the Moogle Post questlines are some of the few Miqo'te NPCs I like in game, but I have a strong feeling that Yugiri is going to be basically the most useful and action orientated Au Ra girl we see, if we see many at all. I really tried to make a badass Au Ra girl but it's so difficult whenever their entire feel seems to be "Moe as hell" and the max height is stuck at 5'3 >_>
Um, the entire context of this thread is a request not to modify DRK AF for female characters. That right there is why the notion that the basic form of the gear is inherently male, it's implicit in the topic of the thread. Throwing up a highly contrived point that ignores this as a response to my post, is no repsonse at all. I don't much care whether you find my argument believable or not because you've very effectively shown that you skipped the context of the discussion. This argument would be more believable if the people who espouse it didn't all want the females to be the ones getting the gear modifications. If half the people who agree with you wanted the basic Dark Knight set from that concept art to be just for women and that the men should be the ones getting stuff switched around to avoid looking like copies of the female form, then maybe you'd have a point. It's the very notion that the basic form is inherently male that leads to the whole problem.
Aside from that, it's fair to say that the majority of armor sets in this game have a very clear and definite male feel to them. Once again I fail to see why female avatars have to wear such gear sets, rather than ones that have ben modified to fit their form. if that situation were reversed, I would make the same argument for male avatars. To some extent it's possible to make that argument already with DoM gear, although typical casters in other cultural references usually wear robes of one sort or another, which does rather weaken the case.
The entire context of the request is "Don't make the DRK AF for girls show off cleavage, have a midriff, show off skin", OP isn't saying "This armor is super masculine! Keep it that way!" They're saying they don't want unneeded changes to make the AF gear have sex appeal.
I fail to see how the armor sets have a "Clear and definite male feel", they're suits of armor, how would you make it look like it had a "female" feel to them?
I only use the High Allagan tank/drg set for glamour, because its one of the few that fits a female characters form showing off their femininity, while still being classy and looking good. Regular allagan, Noct (shudders), and dreadwyrm are just too clunky on females for my taste. PLD AF also did a good job of showing the differences between males and females, without being too bulky or too showy.
The i80 armor from hullbreaker/tam tam/stone vigil also did a good job with this, and I used that for awhile.
If they can make gear for both that doesn't need to be modified to show the differences in gender, I'm all for that. I think the reason they did it on DRG AF is because there isn't much to show "this char is male or female" in the way the armor was designed otherwise.
They went the complete opposite of that with the noct gear. Which looks bulky on males, and terrible on females....
IMHO, if they removes the metal abs (Which looks nearly as dumb as breast cups on armor) on the Noct set, it'd look perfect to me.
I don't get why folks seem so keen on armor looking "feminine". Like if you want your gear to look "feminine" glamour it into some cloth gear or the coliseum set or something.
I don't think you understand OP then. The notion is that the armor is inherently armor, that both genders should be able to wear (small decorative touches maybe can have gender, but the base being protective surely not). To add realistically they would have to too which supports it as an ungendered choice and not a gendered one, custom measurements is a thing for great fitting armor (shoulder/stomach/proportions/sure slight chest changes) but the exaggerated caves and windows would not be a thing if it were to be functional.
That the post was made in apprehension of a past example and possible propensity to change armor, not to label it male armor (quite opposed to that in fact). That there is an armor that is suitable for females and they desire to wear it, and so they were concerned it would change just to further open up parts to their body - while the male version did not. The OP is not asking to wear a man's cup, but to wear gear that both genders could wear (and should, if referencing reality). This game is fantasy, but that doesn't change the fact that just because armor covers up the body and appears to be protective does not mean it is male armor unless you restrict your perspective to popular media - which would obviously produce a slew of gender bias (like this one where females are seen as unfit to wear the functional and logical choice of what is unfairly being called masculine).
Men don't and shouldn't but seem to own the rights to "armor that works", as a male if a female I knew and cared for was to fight I'd not put them in anything but armor (not 'male' armor, just armor). Also just for OP's sake (seems to be forgotten point they made at the bottom), OP doesn't want to have all sexy armor removed past or future but to have both genders get that chance from the same items - both functional and or sexy (as SE mostly does).
If the OP felt I inserted undesirable perspective to their view in anyway then feel free to correct me and I will edit my post. I tried to abstain some of my personal views in the post (like I think sexy clothes are awesome, huehue, but I personally don't like them to be on the battlefield - which for a great majority of games is an upmountain battle lol).
As an aside mentioned above, little decorative touches can be considered male or female like the patterns inlaid, colors, and accessories to the base of the armor - though this should be done with extreme care, calling "strong" a male trait can and is generally insulting (or inaccurate case by case). But if there was a desire for functional base soft eloquent influence they could certainly design a knight of the rose sort of thing (and more). Non-bulky, decorative finishes, bright - still functional still able to be worn by both genders.

And I dont see why people want armor to look exactly the same on both genders. If you want to look like a male wearing armor on a female character, just make a male character. I shouldn't HAVE to wear the coliseum gear to make my char not luck like shes a man wearing armor.IMHO, if they removes the metal abs (Which looks nearly as dumb as breast cups on armor) on the Noct set, it'd look perfect to me.

Because it's armor, which is designed to protect you, not make you look like a guy or a girl. I shouldn't have to make a male character to have semi sensible armor. Like, seriously the rest of the AF gear for DRG looks fine, but if the added stomach hole makes the armor look like for a girl, I don't see why you'd have an issue with just slapping the coliseum set on for glamour. If I play a tank in a game I want to play a well armored character, boy or girl. Leave the silly sets with boob windows and lots of skin showing for glamours.
