All I hear is whining and entitlement...Just suck it up and do the story, like every other player before you, did.

You can still play around with crafters and gatherers. You pick up a DoL class at 10 level it to 50 and play as much as you want. Just don't expect that the Holy See will open it's doors to the legendary lumberjack of light. The only reason Crafters and Gatherers exist in their current state is because Tanaka's plan for 1.0 was that players should be able to just play on crafters and gatherers without touching combat classes if they want to. This has changed, though.
Crafting and Gathering is a side thing. Yoshida confirmed that progression would be tied to DoW/DoM back before 2.0 was launched, because trying to balance progression for Crafters and Gatherers was too difficult. This is why you HAVE to start as a DoW or DoM at the beginning of the game. The game is designed for DoW/DoM first.
Now I didn't play 1.0 at all but I'm pretty sure the story quests would have still required you to kill. Don't think Tanaka tought this through.

With that logic, Memenu Menu, Primal of the Lalafell should just be let in because she punched a dragon to death with only her fists and a mean look.
Doesn't mean it's going to happen. Shouldn't, either.

I would have to say a big fat NO here. It would require SE do go back and completely change the 2.0 story line. So I don't see this happening at all. Maybe the next expansion will allow you to skip 2.0. If you're worried about server stress load right now, how do think the servers will respond when everyone and their mother can get into the new zone right off the bat. I'm sure this tactic was implemented to stay true to the lore of the story and to help limit the amount of people accessing these new areas.

You could play a minigame to get out of a lot of stuff that required combat, if you were a crafter/gather in 1.0. Also you had a path companion to help out, I guess.. and you could chuck rocks? You can still play around with crafters and gatherers. You pick up a DoL class at 10 level it to 50 and play as much as you want. Just don't expect that the Holy See will open it's doors to the legendary lumberjack of light.

I guarantee you that if Yoshida could have destroyed the current design for crafters and gatherers, he would have. You can play the game as a crafter/gatherer exclusively if you want to, now, but you CANNOT get a mount, you CANNOT get an airship pass, and you CANNOT get to Ishgard without DoW or DoM. These are milestones that are designed around DoW and DoM because the game itself is designed pretty much exclusively for DoW and DoM. Crafting is supposed to be a side thing, if you play this game to craft that's awesome, but you cannot reach certain milestones by synthing ingots and cakes.

				Why is the analogy bad?
You're aware that Heavensward is an expansion right? It's not just a content patch? We're clear about that? Good.
So: entering Heavensward content (Ishgard in this case) would be the equivalent of entering Aht Urghan Whitegate. Still with me? Heavensward is still an expansion. That hasn't changed between sentences.
Now, to enter Aht Urghan Whitegate, I had to do a single quest. That quest however did not require me to have completed Chains of Promathia, which is the expansion that came before Treasures of Aht Urghan. Remember Heavensward is an expansion.
Ok, let's put it together: Entering Ishgard (Whitegate) should not require me to have completed the full expansion prior to it (2.55 main story) because it is unfriendly to new players to do that. Mostly it locks off access to the new jobs which are typically a major selling point for an expansion (remember, Heavensward is an expansion and not a content patch).
Understand now?

This is a problem with people trying to experience a new game mechanics to them and then request/demand to change it to their liking/other game style.
If the OP has friends coming/ joining the game then HELP them. The dev team already said that they are going to make a lot things to help them so they won't struggle that much. I am sure we will be forced to play old content so new players won't have to wait a long queue to get their level or if they want to farm something for glamour/items.
Playing a game based entirely on its storyline and asking to be skipped /facepalm srly people are amusing.
