You're aware that Heavensward is an expansion right? It's not just a content patch? We're clear about that? Good.

So: entering Heavensward content (Ishgard in this case) would be the equivalent of entering Aht Urghan Whitegate. Still with me? Heavensward is still an expansion. That hasn't changed between sentences.

Now, to enter Aht Urghan Whitegate, I had to do a single quest. That quest however did not require me to have completed Chains of Promathia, which is the expansion that came before Treasures of Aht Urghan. Remember Heavensward is an expansion.

Ok, let's put it together: Entering Ishgard (Whitegate) should not require me to have completed the full expansion prior to it (2.55 main story) because it is unfriendly to new players to do that. Mostly it locks off access to the new jobs which are typically a major selling point for an expansion (remember, Heavensward is an expansion and not a content patch).

Since you want to equate Aht Urhgan with Ishgard, let's also consider this. You STILL wouldn't want to go to AU as a new character since everything in that expansion is designed around a level 75 character. This trend continued with Wings of the Goddess and Seekers of Adoulin. You still need to be capped out in order to fully enjoy the expansion's missions and endgame. Yes, there may have been exp parties in those areas, but they weren't newbie friendly either.

Yes, it's an expansion. However, it's an expansion for a game based around being at the level cap.

You did not have to complete CoP prerequisites to access Sky.
You did not have to complete ToAaU prerequisites to access Sky.

And that was the situation North American players faced upon the game's release here. Yet we still played. Some of us for years.

It still doesn't matter. FF11 =/= FF14 and FF14=/= FF11.

You can make all the complaints against it in the world, the fact that it's locked behind the MSQ is staying.

No ifs ands or buts, and the best part is; they cannot change it within 11 days for early access. So anyone who hasn't done the MSQ is SOL. Whether people like it or not, Heavensward being gated behind 2.55 is not going to change. Which I'm glad. Though it won't change how many people will be sucking all over the place with DRK/AST until we get rotations set. (Myself included)
