New characters will actually benefit the most from running the main story, since Yoshida recently said that xp rewards will be doubling for the main story quests, and that new players will get priority queue into dungeons they haven't completed yet. With the roulette bonus, challenge logs, job logs, and now this huge xp increase, leveling to 50 will be a breeze. Add to this, all those main story quests we all got zero xp for, new players will get double xp for, perhaps letting them level to 51-52 easily just getting done with 2.55. In addition, Yoshida mentioned 'powerful weapons' as rewards - perhaps they will bump the lvl 45-50 AF to be the myth gear (i90), which would make a lot of sense. So, in essence, I kind of envy these new players (and may make an alt myself just for fun and to have 1 of each clan of Au Ra) ^^

Uhh no, thats just being lazy, you should have to go through the main quest completely before entering. The story wouldn't make any sense otherwise....

... but that's how it's always been. I came in right after 2.3 dropped and I had to go through the MSQ to catch up to everyone else. It wasn't a big deal then and it's still not a big deal-- you can easily get through the MSQ in just a couple of weeks if you focus on it.

The amount of people that want to be able to skip story quests is likely a minority compared to the people that don't care/want to play the story. Honestly, it's boring, but it doesn't take that long. May as well just do it.

Besides, new characters get experience up to level 53 for the main quest as well as gear, so it only helps them.

I started this game ~2 weeks ago and I'm already at the end of Patch 2.4 main-quests.

Crafting is a side activity. First and foremost the game is about being an adventurer and you are required to pick a battle class when starting the game. Finishing the main story quest line is not hard at all requires no raids and very basic entry level gear that anyone can get.

@OP: You are playing a story driven game, expect the story to impede some aspects of that game.
Wait, you actually think this will slow down botters? Thanks, I needed a good laugh.

The only reason Crafters and Gatherers exist in their current state is because Tanaka's plan for 1.0 was that players should be able to just play on crafters and gatherers without touching combat classes if they want to. This has changed, though.

Crafting and Gathering is a side thing. Yoshida confirmed that progression would be tied to DoW/DoM back before 2.0 was launched, because trying to balance progression for Crafters and Gatherers was too difficult. This is why you HAVE to start as a DoW or DoM at the beginning of the game. The game is designed for DoW/DoM first.

Is that the case here?I realize some may have just come back to the game and have only now made it through WoD only recently, never bothering to touch the MSQ since ARR, but that's no reason to give them a free pass when everyone with access had to work for it.
