Relics are powerful now? When did that happen? In all seriousness, since you can only upgrade secondary statistics, the difference really is by only a margin. If we could stack strength, intelligence or other such primary bonuses it would be a different tale, and I would agree wholeheartedly.

Since it's basically just replacing one stat with another in most cases (or rounding off a whole bunch to far lower amounts), I really wouldn't care about losing the customization on my Excalibur.

Having 53 Crit and 38 Det is a rather large difference than having 53 Parry and 37 Acc. Yes the secondary stats don't impact your output as much, but this isn't ilvl 80 stuff we're dealing with. We're getting to the point where the highest ilvl (and with this the highest main stated) items aren't always your best choice in the game. And this is true not just for relics but of other gear as well.

My SCH is doomed to never be i130 because it's a significant drop in output doing so. D:

For most jobs their relics are BiS due to being able to tailor the stats to what they need perfectly. The Dreadwyrm weapons by comparison have terrible stats for most jobs. It might only be a minor improvement but they're still the best weapons in the game regardless of how small the increase is.
