Still no problem if the first step is "gather 75 materias and meld them on a scroll" and the Zeta owners can skip this ^^
I really hope that will be it
Though my point was it gives you an option to either grind it out like others have or get a blander versions of the HW relic because you chose to purchase a base weapon for the new relic as opposed to working on the stats. Those who care about having weapons with the best stats will grind and those who only care about ilvl will go the other route.
That'd be a pretty interesting idea. If you have the Z title, it gives you a scroll filled with 75 infusions of whatever stats it has as it reaches that level. You can then choose to remove infusions via the same system of infusion removal that we currently have.
Meanwhile, people without the Z title would have to start from 0/75, much like Alexandrite was.
Earnestly, I doubt this will be the case, because SE sees this as a way to keep things like Materia relevant. But if they do another system like this? I'd love to see such a method used to reward those who put in time on Zeta weapons.
First of all, this kind of talk is why I pray Yoshi-P does not listen to people like you, or cater to your laziness, thoughts, or needs. Never once did FFXI ever made an expansion, or storyline obsolete. For 5 expansions, certain earrings, rings, and things you got for beating certain content made new players go back to that content in order to get something they never could have gotten otherwise.Let us be quite frank here though, the likelihood of any new player even bothering with the relic weapon questline when they need to start it from scratch at level 50 with a level 60 cap ... they are not going to do it.
Even at present it would take a new player months upon months to reach Zeta which is still only a level 50 weapon.
But anyhow why I bring myself up as the example is because I am NOT going to do the relic weapon line, even with the chunk I finished before (which was a hefty and incredibly painfully long experience) I would never in my life consider finishing it to Zeta at this point. It is excessive and punitive.
A simple patch to upgrade your dreadwyrm weapon by a quest to the proper 60 level could easily be done. Making a new storyline to the Zodiac relic separate from the new relic eventually making them simliar, but the older relic a tad better could easily be done.
In FFXI there were 3 relics over a 6 expansion time period, and if you had one of those they were evenly the best weapons with the oldest relic being best.
Quest came out to upgrade these old relics to higher levels, and could easily be done here. I can only hope that Yoshi-P is learning from FFXI, and other MMO's experiences.
Marciano left the game because he believed that the whole i-Level thing was a mistake... I hope Yoshi-P proves that he knows what he's doing. And I don't think making a really tedious relic to get obsolete, or not make it really matter to have it, or even attempt it in the future, is not a good game decision, and leaves potential for a lot of story, solo old relic dungeons, or any great imaginative thing you could do with these Zodiacs not to mention keeping the old land relevant and filled with people trying to get atma and such.
Pfft... Zodiac Braves had the best weapons... I guess they never traveled to the North, and got to level 60.

Was pretty confident they said the relic questline ended at zeta and has nothing to do with the new one coming in 3.1. They "may take into consideration" those who completed a zeta but never said how or what that meant.
That's the problem though, people who put in effort will feel shunned if there is no boon towards next relic, for finishing current relic line and will most likely not even bother with HW relic, since they'll feel any efforts will be wasted when next expansion is released. On the other side, people who never did the ARR relic questline to it's conclusion, will feel that the HW relic isn't truly detached if there is some coveted bonus for people who got their Zeta, and not bother doing it since they will feel at a disadvantage, either in time spent, or in having a sub optimal relic.
Well as someone who is currently trying to wrap up the Zodiac quests knowing another one is coming in 3.1 I disagree I suppose. Im not one of those people who goes "But i worked so hard in 2.0-2.55 I want my efforts to be really important in 3.0!" Well good news, your 135 will carry you all the way through 3.0 to endgame. Then in 3.1 you'll be all end game geared at 140ish and its time to get the next big weapon for the new game. That's the problem though, people who put in effort will feel shunned if there is no boon towards next relic, for finishing current relic line and will most likely not even bother with HW relic, since they'll feel any efforts will be wasted when next expansion is released.
So IMO your zodiac/zeta will matter for a good while still.
Devs said that ilvl130/135 will only carry up to about lvl55.Well as someone who is currently trying to wrap up the Zodiac quests knowing another one is coming in 3.1 I disagree I suppose. The reward for doing the relic questline was getting the best weapon in the game (across several patches). If that's not enough of a reward, then you're too blinded by your own entitlement to be worth listening to.That's the problem though, people who put in effort will feel shunned if there is no boon towards next relic, for finishing current relic line and will most likely not even bother with HW relic, since they'll feel any efforts will be wasted when next expansion is released.
