I mean, it's a bit ridiculous that these are all the materials required to craft a damn Rank 1 grey tunic:
4x Cotton Yarn (2x Cotton Boll + 1x Lightning Crystal)
9x Hempen Yarn (2x Moko Grass + 6x Lightning Shard)
    2x Lead-grey Hemp Dye (1x Lead-grey Dyer's Moss, 1x Alumen, 1x Distilled Water, 5x Water Shard, 2x Fire Shard)
1x Copper Buckle (2x Copper Square [3x Copper Nugget, 5x Earth Shard], 1x Copper Nugget, 2x Earth Shard, 3x Fire Shard)
4x Copper Nugget (4x Yellow Copper Ore, 10x Fire Shard)
1x Buffalo Leather Strap (1x Buffalo Leather [1x Walnut Chips, 1x Buffalo Hide, 3x Water Shard, 8x Ice Shard], 8x Wind shard)

    Shards:
    39x Earth Shards
    16x Wind Shards
    17x Water Shards
    15x Fire Shards
    6x Lightning Shards
    8x Ice Shards
    1x Lightning Crystal
    Total: 101 Shards, 1 Crystal

It is absolutely ridiculous. So ridiculous, in fact, that it's incredibly hard to even list the required materials without making it look confusing without some trees.

Look at the damn Recipe List [LINK] from Yellow Gremlin. It's absurd.

EDIT: The above list isn't even counting what you make some of that stuff into, like Lead-grey Cotton Cloth and Undyed Cotton Cloth and the Lead-grey Hempen Tunic Front and etc. etc.
Yeah that is crazy. But like what me and my friends had problem with when making gear when the game first launched is that you need items that are like from another craft that is like level 30, so you could never make stuff of you own materials, unless you have 30 bsm, 30 weaving, 25 carp etc for a level 10 tunic or something. its like really... It's really ridiculous. The game in my eyes should be giving you items (that make sense) throughout level other classes, so you can be making your own items. shouldn't have to really rely on market items, unless its for leveling that crafting class.

The crafting system sucks, there is no other way around this, i dont really understand how some people could even defend, this horrible system, "Oh you want a bronze gladius? Here you need 500 items and half of them are from other craft tree's in order to make a R6 Item"

Again... I'm going to guess you haven't read a thing in this thread. No one thinks the crafting system is perfect (or if they do they are WAAAY in the minority.)

It's the degree and nature of the change that is causing concern.

I guess JP players are OK with this!
There is a thread in the Items, Synthesis and Gathering section:
    http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...82%B9%E3%83%AC

There are people on both sides of the fence, but most of the discussion is going into what people think the ramifications of the changes will be.

Love it SE! Keep on doing what your doing! Can't make everyone happy, the "hardcore" players who like it real need to get out and get some fresh air or take up a knitting class if "real" is what you are after...it is just a game after all. SE wanted to make XIV also for the people who don't have those 4 or 5 hours to play every day. And just remember, if your going hate, then hate where hate deserve to be hated! World of Warcraft's dumb downed crafting system...its not just for the handicap. Its for the handicapable!

Hell yeah, eliminate the need for a gazillion items required for synths. In the end it only bogs down the internal database for needed functions like, ya know hot key abilities, raid instances.. Welcomed change indeed.

I am sad parts are being done away with, they just needed tweaking down ranks that's all.

I am also sad that hard earn points will now go to waste, this was a good unique way to improve your character in the crafting department. Simplification of recipes is welcome, and the dye is very welcome as well but 'too much too fast' I think rings true again here.

I KNEW IT. I knew this would happen.

One of the largest complications of this will be, in later stages of the game it'll be easier to get weapons, prices will drop incredibly, and if they're the best thing to rank up off of we'll end up tossing out Haubs and shirts into the aether just because we can't sell them.
What will be the point? Other than to clothe yourself and your LS.

Removal of parts, to a certain rank would have been the ideal. I agree it's ridiculous for a hempen shirt to require so many parts. Why not remove parts to r20, introduce some parts 20+-35, then from there, make the recipes more difficult. It shouldn't be so difficult to make and use equipment in the early stages of the game, in fact it might get folks more interested in crafting.

And now? What the hell?! I knew this was going to happen. Yoshida's team I feel is the laziest of its kind. Easier to abolish half a system than to improve upon what already exists. Or ask each other why what they have isn't working.
So what's going to happen to parts themselves? Removed entirely? I mean item-wise. Because some of them were nice to rank up off of, like fent. Although now fent is useless. :/

This is just too similar to the removal of easily crafted and procured repair items, most of the time for free, into an expensive simplified easy way out. I used to be able to repair all my cloth gear for free, but now? nearly 5k for one repair. That's not a gil sink, that's highway robbery. And all I guess, for those carrying around stacks of nuggets for no reason other than to complain they have no inventory space. Or into future patches, make Chocobos a sinch to get.

Honestly though back on the subject of this horrid 'advance' in the synthesis program. I honestly cannot believe it. And that's just what armour/cloth craft looks like.
Pretty soon you won't even need to refine gems to make rings.

I would have been happiest with the removal of specifically DYED parts. Like sleeves, and taupe leathers.
I don't think the Devs understand subtlety at all.
