I wonder if we'll ever get an answer from Middy as to why he; Felt the need to attack the Garleans, and why he felt the need to "kill" himself in the process... He was always referred to as the Guardian of theGalaxySilvertear Falls, what exactly was he guarding? Why did he crash a giant warship into whatever he was guarding? Why did he coil around said warship? It was almost like he was guiding it tolandcrash where it did, was he just bored of being the guardian of the lake at this point?
For all the high-and-might talk he gives off, I still view him as a very stupid dragon until those questions are answered...
Add to that the fact that Bahamut might be his first born... That would mean Middy is older than Allag, and while guarding the lake he let them built a Voidgate-opening end-of-the-world device next door and imprison an entire family branch in Dalamud... Guess he is the falls asleep and only wakes up when he farts kinda grandpa, rather than the kick-ass saves all his grand-kids kind... Can Hydealyn give me a new invigilator?

The Dragonsong makes me think it's more a case of Nidhogg being possessed of an all-consuming rage upon the death of Shiva. The lesser dragons I think would have no choice but to follow his will, and his will is bent on revenge as only love can inspire. So far the dragons haven't come across as anything but racist pricks, IMO. The whole "The sons must pay for the fathers misdeeds" mentality is simply wrong, I'd expect creatures with such a long lifespan to be wiser than that... Ishgard may have started the war, but the dragons are the ones continuing hostilities 1,000 years on when nobody who was actually involved on Ishgards side is still alive (or are they?!). They're basically going "An Ishgardian upset me... KILL ALL ISHGARDIANS!", replace 'Ishgardian' with any race on earth, and yeah... Extremely racist...
Aether was formally sealed beneath silvertear lake before Midgardsomr and the ship crashed into it, which allowed the resummoning of all the other primals once the seal was broken (hence why you see the primals flying away from everything). However we're unsure why the Garleans were there in the first place since they hate primals/eikons so it doesn't make sense for them to want to unseal the aether.

I wonder...must be a very...simpleminded Dragon if his Brain so easily flooded with one Thought....
I don't think they wanted to unseal the Aether rather just cross the Lake for a Bombardment with their "Mighty Mothership".Aether was formally sealed beneath silvertear lake before Midgardsomr and the ship crashed into it, which allowed the resummoning of all the other primals once the seal was broken (hence why you see the primals flying away from everything). I don't care about dragons as such, but I'm siding with Ysayle all the way, so I'm probably also siding with the dragons![]()
Possible, though that doesn't exactly make for a compelling justification for the genocide of an entire civilization. More so when you consider Nidhogg is well over 1,000 years old and, even if things had been rosy, Shiva would have died of old age long ago. Although dying a martyr means she gets to be an immortal Primal...
It's not just lesser dragons that are following his will, either. Midgardsormr is, and Midgardsormr is even "forcing" all dragons to answer the call now, not just Nidhoggs brood... There would have to be a damned good reason all this... So far it just looks like Nidhogg misses depth perception, though... Given the Eye seems to hold some power, I really don't blame Ishgard for holding onto it, either... It's like if you took a muggers weapon away, and then they threaten to kill you if you don't give it back... Hell no you're not going to give it back, they'd just be able to kill you all the more easily...
Exactly, his actions make even less sense if that gets confirmation (I think it's just a popular theory at the moment?), and he has the gall to claim to test us? He basically turned Mor Dhona into a barren wasteland, I'm no expert but I don't think that is what the title "Guardian" entails... He has a lot of explaining to do, but instead he is being all pompous and condescending... He's perhaps one of my least favorite characters currently, as a result.Aether was formally sealed beneath silvertear lake before Midgardsomr and the ship crashed into it, which allowed the resummoning of all the other primals once the seal was broken (hence why you see the primals flying away from everything). Certainly looking forward to all the plot details in Heavensward though, so many questions to be answered~

He's supposedly a lot less condescending in the Japanese translation, but they decided to make him a butthole for the English translation for some reason.
Also we've seen already in a 2.55 cutscene that the pope seems to be under the influence of the Ascians. Whether Midgardsomr knows this or not is in question but it's possible he wants the WoL to end the war by killing the pope, and that's why he's accompanying them to Ishgard.

Eh, there are vague hints that Nidhogg may have had a way around that. Maybe. Though I fully admit I'm making assumptions here.
Regardless, there are also hints in the Dragonsong that this was not the only betrayal Ishgard committed, and we have no idea what the other one(s) might have been.
