The ring on the ground below the enemy shows you where the back and side ends.
If you don't have a ring on a ground, activate it in the options menu. Under control -> target -> target ring.

I assume you are refering to the ring indicating which way the targets facing. That's not really what I'm asking for. I'm asking how much leeway there is for a skill to determine it's in the correct position. For instance if the targets flank is 180 or 0 degrees and the targets rear is 270 degrees does being at 220 or 320 degrees count as Rear or does it count as Flank? can I side step to 230 degrees and count as Flanking or do I have to be closer to/exactly at 180?
