Hey guys, just wanted to drop in here for a little clarification on the topic:

While there have been articles speculating about our trademark registrations of single words and groups of words included in our brands, and SQUARE ENIX specifically, we have no plans to change our company name or branding.

While we're on the subject of general Square Enix stuff... >.> Can you pass on a suggestion to who ever would be able to coordinate it that a Re-release of Nier with both Character versions being playable and an english dub for the Young Nier version. As well as Nier Character Playarts would all greatly be appreciated >.>

i think originally they wanted to name them self "Squire Soft" it fits the theme of their games and all but as it sometimes happens with japanese english speakers, Square Soft came out :P

Sounds like they were just claiming the trademark to stop anyone from getting it. A lot of companies have done the same recently.

Ok heres the difference.

10 years ago Squaresoft was not a PUBLISHER. They were only a Developer. Square PUBLISHED through EA and only Published Squaresoft game (Under the name Square EA)

Now a days Square Enix is a developer and a Publisher. But they publish for other companies too (Cavia, gas power games, eidos, and Activision (In Japan).)

The reason "SE" seems to be pushing out so much crap isn't because THEY pushed out crap its because people they had contracts with for publishing did. Thats why they dropped a bunch of developers and games in april. Because they were tired of pushing out bad games from third rate developers.

That was in AMERICA only......EA only published Square games in US...but oh I forgot...US is the world...

Not surprising. As previously said, a poor "writer" in a slow news day creates baseless rumors and a further lot of poor "writers" in slow news days quaff it like it was golden and perpetuate it.

Defensive trademarking is very common (and someone that fancies himself a journalist should know). Nothing to see here. Thank you Hvinire. Lessee if I can give a hand crushing this silly rumor.

He sure is/was the one that almost tanked squaresoft forcing it to merge with enix. Remember Spirits within?

While I have the utmost respect for Sakaguchi, nostalgia is the mother of all silly arguments. He did nothing by himself, and he had his fair share of bad/mediocre games, like every developer out there. For sure he was no messiah like some try to paint him.

A lot of times people give him credit for other peoples work too. After FF3, he was mostly just giving minor ideas to people and letting them run with it. Thats how FF7 and FF8 turned out so... off to people from people who had played 1-6 so dedicatedly.
