If I'm correct atleast one reason is to prevent people from just making characters to "hold" names for themselves.
Which is happening anyways, but with non-lore names basically.

But who honestly gets that hyped up about Au Ra naming conventions besides roleplayers? It's a very little information (Unless if they plan to do a bit of a lore drop on Au Ra in general before May is over but I'm not getting my hopes up >.>) that applies to what I think is a much smaller fraction of the playerbase who just want to name their character what they want.
Disc was mastered almost a month ago. Pretty sure they're doing final tuning on the version update and possibly the scripts for 3.1 and beyond by now.
I'm not really a roleplayer either, but I prefer to have my character's name make sense in-story (instead of being called something like "BBQ Chicken"), which is why I usually just hit random. This time, though, I know there's a proper naming system, so I want to do that... but still nothing.

Most people are guessing JP-styled names for Raen, and MY guesses for Xaela are Hyur(mid & highlander) styled names. Or maybe Hyur/Elezen styled names.
Hmm, I suppose you could still get hyped up about it, but as someone who adores roleplaying and seeing the story in a more immersive manor, having a lore fitting name makes sense unless if the character is built around not living in a more traditional manor. Though, I still hope when we do get naming conventions, seeing as how it wasn't tacked onto the live letter, we get some additional Au Ra lore or something with it.
This is a bit of speculation, taken from my blog
It's a fair guess that Yugiri is going to be the basis of every Raen Au Ra name. The Xaelas are still unknown, so I'll be focusing on the Raen.
Yugiri Mistwalker, [Japanese First Name, Nature related prefix/Verb with -er suffix last name]
Akio Wavestrider
Hikaru Mountaincrusher
Katsu Waterdancer
These are a few examples that I could pull from the “formula”.
Hope this helps!
Almost, but not quite:
Yugiri Mistwalker
Yu - mist
Giri -cut through
so Yugiri -> Mistwalker
The secondary name is derived from the first, but not quite a direct translation. These are more Doman naming conventions than striclty Au Ra, but I think this is the proper pattern.
