NO!! for petition for new ui. fix the one we got already!!
we need more bars. so spells are just a click away with out having to fumble threw the scrolling.
if your gona pvp with menus and game pad i dont think that will work well. (if they add pvp)
picking skills with dpad on a controller is so slow. clicking with the mouse or using buttons makes combat
much faster for me. all i have to do is wait for cooldowns.
i dont know how the OP played 11 with out macros though

i also like to add with action bars. i can see every skill i have. every cool down.
also lets me pick my "ga" spells with out having to click on another aoe button. (cure for now)
without an echo macro in 11 or going back to the menu i had now idea when cooldowns were over.

SE did say somewhere. i think it was the combat lead. that they would like to give us
as much information as possible in the ui.

i understand that there gona have to rethink the ui for ps3 though

also someone mentioned clutter on the screen. im hoping SE will give us the option
to resize all our widgets. action bars etc.

    Wasn't XI only a menu-sided combat system?
I guess that macros kind of solve everything anyway =D What me and danny meant was more like a hybrid, having a skillbar + a Menu. That I guess is a lil' time consuming and maybe less user friendly.
Well, I'd say I like the one that we have now, and it only has to be bettered. Having more ways to engage battle is fine too though, but I would never change it.

I don't want to get rid of the skill bar, that would be stupid because plenty of people enjoy it, i just want an option for a menu (like every ff has when in a battle doesnt have to be like that just saying menus go with FF).
sigh i read your retrograde petition, menus????
come on menus in mmorpg is bad idea, ffxi had this system because ffxi is old game
really ffxi players fans are ffxiv killer seriously

Ahh I see. Well if they can accomodate then go for it. I just see WoW or Aion or Rift or half the other MMOs out there when I see that stinkin UI bar lol. I honestly don't even pay attention to it half the time which is why I wouldn't care if it DID go away as I have macros set and just remember where all my stuff is. Who knows, maybe when I hit the upper levels like 30, I may change my thoughts.

Why? Because we really enjoyed XI and hoped that XIV would have been an upgrade rather then a downgrade? Because the majority of people who tested, played from OB or at least from launch have been the ones vying for a better game? I could say the same thing you did for ALL the other people bringing up other MMOs they liked and want to see some of THOSE aspects imported into XIV. LOL /smh

Damn to make one thing clear...

This is still a Final Fantasy game and it's way better to take things from older games of the serie then from other MMORPGs like WoW. I play this game because it is a Final Fantasy and not because I want another MMORPG. So let arguments like "FFXI is FFXIV killer" and kind of out of this game. If this game turns into a typical MMORPG I see many people leave, because there are enough other "typical" MMORPGs out there.

Every Final Fantasy title of the main series had the same type of battle UI, so why is it wrong to ask for an (optional) FF-Battle UI?

    Edit:

I didn't play FFXI for a long time but every change taken from FFXI to FFXIV is an improvement to the gameplay. They are able to build a better game if they work in the direction of the FF series then they do with copying other MMORPGs.

Yeah no one asked to trash the action bar, just asking for another option. I enjoy playing with a controller regardless of it's the most efficient way or not. For tough fights in XI of course I used macros but just to do pages I sat down in my chair and relaxed, because I enjoyed it and actually I became really quick in going through the different menus.

Then, from a controller point of view, most of times a menu UI will need less clicks than the current action bar so why not (again, keep it optional)

Excuse me for one sec this "might" go slightly off topic so I apologize in advance. Any of those who played XI remember we also had .. I believe they called them books where you could create macro sets and you could title them like Whm Sky event macro or w/e? Remember how fast it was to get there and change everything for a change in jobs? Well I noticed the other day when I was swapping actions and gear for a job I noticed 1 if I don't wait for the action bar to go through it's motions of showing me the cool down timers it won't slot them all or it will miss some and also 2 it shows me in the log everything it's doing from Spirit Dart set in Slot 1 or Cotton Half-gloves equipped in Hand slot as well as not equipping items if I don't let it finish. Anyone else noticing this? And couldn't they just stop displaying that info? I know what I chose so I don't need to know what is going where or what actions I have. I know I can't expect Stone Skin or Raise to be ready immediately. So not to beat a damn dead dog/horse/ *insert animal here* but again they had it quick and easy and user friendly in XI so what happened? lol

Edit: Oh and it was VERY fast and user friendly as well for the gamepad users!
