    Following your reasoning, every single duty of the game must have an "extreme" version.
    If you want show up how good you are, go to Alexander when it comes.

    Why not? It would be the same reason why single player games of all kinds have multiple difficulty settings. Some people find games more fun with the difficulty turned down, some don't. Everyone has a preference. I personally like how it's done with the primal fights. The harder fights aren't mandatory but they give more rewards if they are completed. I think that is perfectly fair. The same philosophy can be applied to any duty in this game Steps of Faith included.
