Please remove Shark Fin Soup

People are no longer bothering to read the whole thing, or even further than the first page, and are repeating points that have been made again and again.

It's sad, but that's how this post was interpreted from day one. I try to make a point and everyone just spams hateful satirical crap as if it has anything to do with what I posted.

I never pretended to be some over-the-top hippie. I just want to point out that a tired old lie IRL was reinforced in the game and I don't like that at all.

I know it. When I saw Dried Prunes in the recipe menu I thought "man those sound pretty yummy, like a giant raisin". I went out and got some gobbled down the whole bag, they were ok, but man let me tell you the next day or so was not so pleasant. Though my pants fit a bit better now. I don't recommend trying out too much on the menu in this game. Some severe side effects mat come about.

Heh, you joke, but more than once while playing FFXI, I'd eat a food and think to myself, "Man, that sounds yummy." The first time I ever tried Mushroom Risotto I picked it from the menu becuase it was a staple WHM food and I wanted to know what it was really like. (What was it like? Delicious.)

I remember reading a thread here, no doubt long buried by now, in which folks were working on putting together an Eorzea recipe book intended to recreate a lot of the foods found in-game (with some of the more exotic ingredients like Coeurl Meat replaced with more practical alternatives). Yes, people are definitely interested in the dishes described in-game. Do I think that inclusion of Shark Fin soup in this game will lead to a boost of the food in real life (and thus an increase in the profits of cruel finners)? Probably not, but it wouldn't surprise me to learn that someone learned about the soup in-game and was inspired to try it in real life - and possibly not know that he ought to verify that it came from humane sources.

Did you really just single me out and assume that i didn't spend quite awhile reading this entire topic? You do know that saying about people who assume right? It is pretty easy for multiple people to say similar things, you are not a special or unique snowflake on this topic either.

I was simply stating that in Eorzea the item description for this recipe is not a lie incase you somehow missed that part, I would certainly urge people who read about it in game to do research on food before eating it, and again as i flat out stated humans do some incredibly cruel and vicious things to animals irl that is sadly not new and needs to change. Calling out SE for some bogus political agenda without proof is silly, end of story.

She doesn't assume you didn't read it. She PREsumes you didn't read it, and for good reason: your reply seems to indicate that you missed the point. OP does not believe (nor care, for that matter) that there are secretly ships teeming with Roes just chopping off fins and tossing the remains back. What they do care about is what they perceive to be some sort of statement regarding the real life practice involved in producing shark fin soup. Personally? I think it was just an attempt to differentiate the Eorzean practice from the RL practice, but dismissing the challenge as silly is a grand example of why so many real injustices go uncorrected.

You forget this is a game made by people in a country where whales are hunted "for science" to get around international whaling laws. But then, even Chinese mmos are courteous enough to not have you eating dog in their games western translations.
