I dunno, that looks delicious to me. (And I enjoy eating squid and octopus too mmmmmmmmmmmmmmMMMMMMM)This reminds me of when I was crabbing in san francisco pier, these chinese people caught this small spotted shark. It turned alot heads, but they took it home with them. Never understood why they did that, but it makes sense now I know better.
I don't see how this is appealing, but oh well. Food for the rich
The simple fact that the op refuses to listen to is that in /Eorzea/ the entire shark is used, that is how things are done among the people (npcs) of Eorzea in their real world, they use the fin for one thing and the meat for another so as to not be wasteful.
Our world does horrible things to every animal, food prepared in cruel ways using living animals, animals on mass farms that are abused their entire lives ect.
In /Eorzea/ nothing really goes to waste unless its by player choice, and SE is not making some political statement by including a form of food that in Eorzea is created from part of the animal that is called for in the recipe. Who says their version of shark fin soup is the same thing? Its not our world its /Eorzea/ our world does not apply
Kill all sharks.
Not sure if this comment and like are facetious or serious, just wanted to add that sharks are very important to the ecosystem and in general are not significantly more scary compared to other toothed wild animals (unless it is a great white, then gtfo - they're polar bears of the bears). Wonder what the lore team has for Megalodon in terms of ecosystem placement . . . - does FFXIV have a whale like population the Megalodon keeps trimmed?

You're posting to remove a food item from the game due to some inhumane practice in real life? Do you think it's okay to run around slaughtering thousands of innocent animals for no reason? Should we take that out of the game and every other RPG too? There are lots of questionable things in this game and other games. Get used to it lol.
My only thought here is
Can players stop bringing in RL political and whatsoever agendas into a game?
It's pretty clear that this thread has gone on for too long. People are no longer bothering to read the whole thing, or even further than the first page, and are repeating points that have been made again and again. You are not the first to make this point. Nor the second. Possibly the tenth by now? Anyway, you, like the ones who have made this point before you, you are incorrect. While it may be possible to interpret the original post this way (though I consider it a stretch), the OP makes it very clear that he knows exactly the distinction between treatment of sharks in game and in real life, and that that is exactly what bothers him.
The OP is quite aware that in Eorzea, the entire shark is used. He believes that this is propaganda, placed into the game by the developers to try to convince players that the same is true in real life. The purpose is to make people more accepting of shark finning. He's afraid that people are going to read the description on Shark-fin soup and think, "Mmm, that sounds tasty! Gonna go get me some, especially since I know that there's no animal cruelty involved!"
The OP is less clear in clarifying what SE's motives for doing this might be, and it's hard for me to see how SE could benefit from this kind of propaganda, if propaganda it is.
I know it. When I saw Dried Prunes in the recipe menu I thought "man those sound pretty yummy, like a giant raisin". I went out and got some gobbled down the whole bag, they were ok, but man let me tell you the next day or so was not so pleasant. Though my pants fit a bit better now. I don't recommend trying out too much on the menu in this game. Some severe side effects mat come about.
