I recently did the Summoner stuff, and the entire process of getting the -egi is you fighting a battle that is otherwise identical to the primal fight (complete with primal music) but with a much larger -egi, not the primal itself.

From a lore perspective you didn't summon the primal (only the beast tribes and buttload of crystals can do that) you only summoned "a fraction" of it. This can just as easily be represented with a super-deformed chibi as it can be with a monstrous version that's not the full size of the primal itself. The intent there is simply "a fraction" of the primal's power.
