I honestly get the feeling that the egis were originally designed as minions of the primals, then were repurposed when the original individually summonable primal forms didn't work out right.
Not really what people are asking for at all. This is more a complaint about summoner the class and their lack of real summoning. eg the egi's aesthetic are completely and totally crap in a basket that hardly resembe the primal their supposed to be a fragment of in any way shape or form. As it is, the only way you might recognize them is... its red... or its green... it has horns must be ifrit right?... it has wings? arms? wingarms?... it has a beak must be garu.... waiiiit... ;PFull fledged summons that use their signature moves are coming soon. There are other systems taking priority right now but it is in the works. Until then, these are elementals so i dont see what the problem is.

And that's just dealing with their aesthetic... not even the issues in their lack of presence in a summoners repertoire.
PS2 limitations didn't stop XI from giving SMN's actual avatars not taken from a Happy Meal. Also, the lore thing needs to stop; XI's lore was very similar in how a SMN came to control there avatars, yet the looks are totally different. Face it, Arcanist/SMN/SCH were late additions to 2.0, and SE simply slapped the Avatars together we have now and called it a day, using the lore excuse ever since despite the overwhelming majority of people totally dissatisfied with how the look of the Egi's turned out.
The fact that minions have more detail in there look in comparison to the iconic Avatars Summoner wields is just plain sad.
Oh, I know exactly what people are asking for. They want summons like FFXI.Not really what people are asking for at all. The thing is I remember the reasoning given for this design and I'm cool with it. I think it makes total sense and rather than cheapen the summon job by giving everyone their own personal Ifrit, they want the actual summon to have weight and impact, like the summons should. As soon as you make them mini versions of the full scale model then they become unimpressive. aside form the looks, are any EGI's even really that impressive gameplay wise? Looks wont change that. Making them bigger wont change that, it will just make them more of a pain than anything (get your EGI off me, cant see to target.)
People have been crying about this since launch. If SE was going to do anything, it would have been done or at the very least mentioned by now. Lets get Ramuh and Levi egi's then see how the FC summoning system works. Even in FFXI there was Elementals and Avatars Egi are Elementals, I can see Avatars coming in a later expansion. We havent even got the first official expansion of FFXIV.
This guy gets it.

because yoshi p felt FF11 summons cheapened them because everyone had the summons as their true form.
That's a good idea! No one has ever mentioned this before.
Indeed. Also, egis look good. No one needs giant summons floating around everywhere, and also it would be pretty odd to have giant summons and have them be as weak as they are. But, I look forward to the resurgence of this incredibly original, fresh, thought-provoking, carefully considered thread every 1-3 days until the game shuts down.
I also look forward to the egis remaining exactly the same for the same duration.
Because they're lazy. Wouldn't be half-assed if they made something that wasn't half-assed.
Don't see how anyone can defend the current look of the summons. They don't need to be a complete rip-off primals, but at the very least make them look decent. I could draw the current ones in Photoshop in literally 5 minutes.
